Job description

Chemical Manufacturing Technician

Job Description

This contract role supports chemical manufacturing operations by preparing materials, managing inventory, and maintaining accurate records using an ERP system. The technician follows established procedures for chemical handling, storage, transportation, and waste disposal while working as part of a collaborative production team. The position requires strong attention to detail, safe work practices, and the ability to troubleshoot issues that may affect product quality or delivery timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory levels and schedule work orders effectively using the ERP system.
  • Create work orders, transfer materials, and decrement inventory accurately within the ERP system.
  • Change and dispense materials for production as needed to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Participate in customer and regulatory audits, including OSHA and EPA audits, by providing accurate records and process information.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records for products, processes, instruments, and training activities.
  • Follow established procedures for the manufacturing, storage, and transportation of chemicals.
  • Handle regulated waste in accordance with current waste disposal (RCRA) and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Gather, interpret, and analyze scale readouts and related documentation to ensure correct measurements and formulations.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to product quality and delivery timelines as they arise and escalate when necessary.
  • Create materials according to internal specifications in a timely manner and deliver them to internal stakeholders.
  • Adhere to hazardous material DOT regulations and follow hazardous material spill response protocols.
  • Participate in receiving, downloading, and uploading chemicals from tanker trucks into bulk tanks.
  • Serve as a member of the Hazardous Material Spill Response Team, responding to spills in accordance with established procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members on shift to meet production goals and maintain a safe work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working safely with chemicals and chemical handling procedures.
  • Basic laboratory experience, including wet chemistry techniques.
  • Ability to perform unit conversions and measurements accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, measurements, and process execution.
  • Understanding of safety practices and safe work habits in a chemical or laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with UV-Vis or similar analytical instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes or chemical engineering concepts.
  • Ability to use an ERP system to manage work orders and inventory transactions.
  • Capability to troubleshoot issues affecting quality and delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or other life science preferred, or an Associate’s degree with 2–3 years of post-graduation experience working in a chemistry lab.

  • Exposure to regulatory audits such as OSHA and EPA audits.
  • Familiarity with RCRA waste disposal requirements and hazardous material DOT regulations.

  • Ability to be medically cleared and adhere to a Respiratory Program, including testing, passing, and being fitted for respirator use as part of standard personal protective equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.89 - $26.33/hr.
