Position Overview

We are seeking a Chemistry Engineer to support the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of coating and surface treatment processes used in advanced engineering applications. This role sits within a materials and processes engineering group focused on coating systems and chemical processing technologies across the product lifecycle.

This is a long-term contract opportunity with potential for permanent conversion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and develop chemical surface treatment processes including:
  • anodizing (including acid anodizing), electroplating, priming, painting, and corrosion-resistant coatings
  • Work with materials such as nickel, gold, and anodized alloys
  • Perform hands-on laboratory work including process troubleshooting, compatibility testing, and technology development
  • Act as a technical resource supporting production and repair needs, stepping in to evaluate and resolve process-related issues
  • Contribute to the development of new coating systems and process improvements, particularly for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) applications
  • Investigate and resolve technical challenges, with a strong focus on corrosion-related issues and coating performance
  • Document findings through test plans, reports, and process documentation

Day-to-Day Work

This role blends hands-on lab work and engineering analysis. You'll spend time in the lab running tests, evaluating coating performance, and troubleshooting issues, while also contributing to documentation and engineering assessments. The team operates as both a development group and a service organization, supporting real-time production and field-related challenges.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience (flexible for strong junior or more senior candidates)
  • Experience in chemical processing, coating systems, or surface treatments preferred

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of chemical processes and surface treatments (plating, anodizing, coatings, etc.)
  • Experience troubleshooting process-related issues in a lab or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to approach problems analytically and think through complex technical challenges
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a lab with chemicals

Preferred Experience

  • Background in plating shops, surface finishing, or coating environments
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as SAE AMS or similar process specifications
  • Experience with corrosion testing, coating evaluation, or materials compatibility testing

Additional Details

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Interview process: virtual interview followed by onsite
  • Interview availability: daily time blocks at 4:00 PM
