Position Overview

Power your Future with Qualus as an Engineer in Training II (EIT) on our Distribution Engineering team! In this role you'll help plan and design distribution projects that strengthen and modernize the grid. You'll assist in developing construction packages, preparing engineering calculations, and supporting material, cost, and construction estimates. You'll work closely with senior engineers, project teams, clients, and permitting agencies while learning utility standards, design tools, and project workflows.ย 

This intermediate-level position is ideal for someone with a solid technical foundation, curiosity, and a desire to learn. You'll be supported through structured training and hands-on experience as you grow into increasingly complex project responsibilities.ย ย 

Responsibilities
  • Completeย engineeringย designย and documentationย ofย distribution system projects.ย ย 
  • Apply client, industry, and regulatory standards to project designs with guidance from Senior Engineers.ย 
  • Help prepare construction plans,ย permit requirements,ย design sketches, cost estimates, material lists, and construction supportย using establishedย CSA and clientย standards.
  • Participate in field reviews andย travel to site toย gather site information to support design decisions.ย 
  • Perform simple engineering checks related to constructability, loading, and basic system impacts.ย ย 
  • Collaborate with team members, clients, andย 3rdย partyย stakeholders to support project progress and communication.ย ย 
  • Maintain organized project documentation andย assistย withย estimating, scheduling,ย billing, invoicing, and quality reviews.ย ย 
  • Use Microsoft Office for project organizationย and daily communication.ย ย 
  • Utilizeย design tools andย project software such as Pole Foreman,ย Spida-Calc,ย PLS-CADD, CYME,ย AutoCAD,ย Bluebeam,ย GIS Software (ARC,ย DAD, EO, DM), SAP,ย Passport,ย Maximo,ย DDS, or similar software.ย ย ย 
  • Produceย accurateย design packages, meeting projectย timelines, budgets,ย and expectations.ย ย 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electricalย or Civilย Engineeringย (or related engineering discipline).ย 
  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing detailed power distribution designs, construction packages, preparing engineering calculations, and supporting material, construction, and cost estimates.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.ย 
  • Eligible for or currently registered as an EIT withย provincialย engineering regulator.ย 
  • Proficiencyย in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).ย ย 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail,ย organization,ย and willingness to learn.ย ย 
  • Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal communication between all parties).
  • Intermediate experience with technical tools and project software (i.e. Distribution Design Studio, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, GIS Applications, material management solutions, AutoCAD, Bluebeam).ย ย 
  • Canadian utility experience strongly preferred (co-op or similar experience).
  • Enthusiasm for structured training, mentorship, and growing technical responsibility over time.ย ย
