What is a Checkpoint job?

A Checkpoint job typically involves monitoring and controlling access points to ensure security and compliance. Responsibilities may include verifying credentials, inspecting vehicles or belongings, and enforcing regulations. These roles are common in areas such as transportation, security, and IT, where maintaining controlled access is critical. Depending on the industry, additional duties may include reporting incidents, assisting with emergency procedures, or managing surveillance equipment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Checkpoint position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Checkpoint Security Officer, you need attention to detail, strong observation abilities, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with security screening equipment, such as X-ray machines and metal detectors, as well as certifications in security procedures, is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, calmness under pressure, and effective communication are vital for resolving potential conflicts and providing customer service. These skills ensure the safety and efficiency of checkpoint operations in environments like airports or event venues.

What are some of the typical challenges faced by Checkpoint Security Officers in their daily work?

Checkpoint Security Officers often encounter challenges such as managing high volumes of passengers or visitors during peak hours, quickly and accurately identifying prohibited items, and addressing situations involving noncompliant or distressed individuals. Maintaining vigilance while performing repetitive screening tasks requires sustained focus, and the role frequently involves collaboration with law enforcement or emergency services in case of security incidents. Effective communication and customer service are key to resolving misunderstandings and ensuring a smooth flow through the checkpoint. Despite these challenges, many officers find the work rewarding due to the vital role they play in maintaining public safety.

Job description

About the Project:

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview:

TRP has a current vacancy for a risk analyst to assist with the development of the Target Price for the ECWE SRS Project by supporting the delivery of the Risk Management Plan and the end to end risk process defined in the plan. The role supports the Risk Manager to maintain a live risk register that aligns with project schedule, cost estimate, and TPA development inputs. The role supports the integration of cost and schedule risk exposure into the Target Price position through both qualitative and quantitative assessments. The role works closely with the Estimating Team to validate risk cost impacts, uncertainty ranges, and cost inputs used in the QCRA and to ensure there is no duplicate or unsubstantiated cost exposure being carried in both the estimate and the risk register.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Risk Manager in implementing the risk management process across all scopes
  • Support risk identification workshops, risk update sessions, and working group meetings in line with RMP and development phase milestones
  • Develop and maintain the project risk register including status, allocation, scoring, and treatment plans
  • Support preparation of inputs for Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessments
  • Coordinate with Estimating Lead and Scheduling Manager to align probability and impact values with validated basis of estimate and basis of schedule
  • Work with Estimating Lead and Estimating Team to validate cost impact assumptions for risks and uncertainty
  • Support Estimating Team to define optimistic, most likely, and pessimistic cost ranges for risk events
  • Confirm that cost impacts of risks are traceable to CBS elements and not double counted
  • Support alignment between risk register updates and Basis of Estimate inputs through each Checkpoint
  • Support preparation of QCRA inputs and rationale documentation for cost ranges and sources
  • Track mitigation actions, support action owners, and update current and target state exposure
  • Support preparation of Risk Reports for governance meetings and checkpoint submissions
  • Maintain alignment of register updates with Lockdown dates and Checkpoint requirements
  • Support training and onboarding of discipline teams on risk process and templates
  • Support correct tagging of risks as Development Phase, Shared, Construction Execution or Adjustment Event
  • Maintain evidence for closure of risks and support transition of materialized risks to issue log

Experience

    • Experience working on major infrastructure projects
    • Understanding of cost estimates, schedule formats, means and methods, and design development stages
    • Ability to use structured cause event effect articulation of risks
    • Proficiency in MS Excel. Safran experience is an advantage
    • Ability to facilitate structured discussions and capture risk statements accurately
    • Understanding of Monte Carlo concepts for cost and schedule risk
    • Strong written documentation skills to maintain traceable and defensible risk data

This is a hybrid position with both office based and remote working. Attendance is required for in person workshops and working group meetings with Design, Construction, Estimating, Scheduling, and Commercial teams. Remote working is acceptable when there are no in person meetings or sessions scheduled.

At TRP, we are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates. Accommodation is available upon request for applicants throughout the recruitment and selection process.

We thank all applicants for their interest. However, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
