Job Summary:

Engages with customers, provides efficient checkout services, communicates grocery carry out services, and monitors the self-checkout lanes. Maintains proficiency regarding transactions and accuracy of tender. Performs various customer service duties while maintaining a safe and sanitary shopping environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a consistent position at the entrance of the self-checkout lane when not assisting customers.
  • Directs and invites customers to use self-checkout lanes based on availability and payment method options.
  • Resolves varying customer interventions accurately and with a sense of urgency.
  • Closely monitors all transactions for accuracy.
  • Role model for "Jump-Over-the-Counter Service Excellence"
  • Monitors, scans, and labels items on the bottom of the shopping cart.
  • Communicates customers needing carry out assistance to courtesy clerks.
  • Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures. Complies with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for adhering to all local, state, and federal laws regarding sales of restricted items such as tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis-based and pharmaceutical products.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of cash register.
  • Basic knowledge of tender policies and procedures.
  • Basic mathematical and counting skills.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to remain courteous with customers at all times.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and partners in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to achieve positive outcomes in all customer interactions.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum three months of service as a cashier, office, or management experience recommended.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
  • TABC/LACT/AATC certification required where applicable.

Physical Demands:

  • Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to focus.
  • Continuously required to talk and hear.
  • Continuously required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling.
  • Continuously required to use fine finger movements (ex. sorting and typing).
  • Continuously required to stand or walk.
  • Frequently required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequently required to bend, kneel or squat.
  • Occasionally required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop or crawl.
  • Attendance at work is required.
