Job Description

The customer is seeking a Senior Product Owner with deep Payments and Move Money operations expertise, rather than a technologyโ€‘focused profile. Candidates should be evaluated against the following criteria.

 The ideal candidate must demonstrate   deep, hands-on operations expertise in ACH and money movement  , with the ability to design products that fully account for   real-world payment exceptions, regulatory constraints, and operational risk  .

Specifically, the candidate should be able to clearly articulate and design for:

  • The most complex ACH transaction types from an ODFI perspective, including   ACH Returns and Exceptions and why they are operationally and regulatory complex.
  • Strong understanding of   ACH Returns processing, including timelines, reason codes, and downstream operational impact.
  • Practical experience managing and designing controls around   NACHA return ratios   and operational thresholds.
  • Deep familiarity with high-risk and high-frequency return codes such as   R02 โ€“ Insufficient Funds, including root causes, mitigation strategies, and operational workflows.
  • Knowledge of the   regulatory bodies and rule sets governing ACH, including   NACHA Operating Rules, and how those rules influence product design, customer experience, and back-office operations.
  • Ability to translate ACH operational constraints (returns windows, re-presentment rules, exception handling) into   clear product requirements and journey designs.
    • Advisor and Client-facing UX

This role requires someone who has not only defined ACH features on paper, but who   understands how ACH truly behaves in production, including failure scenarios, regulatory scrutiny, and operational escalation paths. In addition, they should be able to demonstrate their hands-on experience with a combination of payment rails and capabilities such as:

  • Operations, Controls, and Fraud
  • Core banking and ledger posting
  • Cards
  • Wires, CHIPS/FedWire
  • Real-time payments (e.g., FedNow)
  • Zelle, SWIFT
  • Check processing, mobile deposit, remote check deposit
  • Bulk check printing and exception handling
  • Strong knowledge of fraud prevention, AML, and payment risk controls.
