Job description

The Chassis Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining intermodal chassis and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant operation. This role supports daily operations by minimizing equipment downtime and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on chassis, trailers, and related equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including brakes, suspension systems, air systems, lights, tires, axles, and frames
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and regulatory requirements
  • Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Document repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities accurately
  • Identify safety concerns and report issues that could impact operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Work closely with operations and yard personnel to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedure


Required and Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Welding experience
  • Previous experience as a chassis mechanic, trailer mechanic, or similar role
  • Familiar with DOT and FMCSA regulations
  • Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Familiar with 90 Day BIT Inspections and Annual FMCSA Inspections
  • Familiar with tire replacement and patching
