Job description

Description
Starting at $50,000 Annually
Organization Information:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands (BGCM) is on a mission to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential. We provide a world-class Club Experience that ensures success is within reach for every member-putting them on track to graduate high school with a plan for the future, live healthy lifestyles, and lead with character and citizenship.
Position Summary:
Are you passionate about shaping the next generation of changemakers? As the Character & Leadership Lead, you will breathe life into our core pillar programs across the Clubs. Character & Leadership programming at BGCM empowers youth, ages 13-18 to find their voice, build emotional intelligence, practice ethical decision-making, and develop the teamwork and civic responsibility needed to become tomorrow's leaders.
In this role, you will also champion flagship BGCA national initiatives-such as Keystone Club, Torch Club, and Million Member, Million Hours-while ensuring your team utilizes BGCA's Five Key Elements for Positive Youth Development to drive measurable outcomes in good character and citizenship.
You will lead the charge in executing outcome-driven curriculum, coaching Club staff, and keeping our programs vibrant, relevant, and impactful.
Essential Functions
  • Keep It Fresh & Relevant: Actively research and integrate emerging youth development trends, innovative learning methods, and modern curriculum designs to ensure our programming directly addresses the evolving cultural, social, and emotional needs of today's youth.
  • Drive the Curriculum: Plan, execute, and monitor the Character & Leadership curriculum from start to completion, ensuring all milestones and program goals are met.
  • Engage Teens (Ages 13-18): Design and debut dynamic new programming specifically engineered to hook, engage, and retain our teen population, helping them transition seamlessly from dependence to independence.
  • Coach & Inspire Staff: Provide direct guidance, professional development, and active, supportive coaching to Club staff and volunteers to level up program delivery.
  • Lead the Team: Provide direct supervision, daily guidance and leadership to the Character & Leadership team and program volunteers while maintaining clear accountability for high-quality sports, and wellness programming across all Clubs.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement: Lead routine program quality assessments to evaluate curriculum strengths, making quick pivots to constantly elevate the member experience.
  • Track the Impact: Serve as the main point of contact for data collection; analyze progress, track member outcomes, and generate reports that showcase our impact to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Build Community & Partnerships: Develop strong relationships with youth, parents, community partners, and donors to advocate for our programs and expand opportunities for our members.
  • Budget & Resource Stewardship: Plan and monitor curriculum budgets and expenses for program supplies, including member incentives and recognition events.

Who You Are (Qualifications & Skills)
  • Experienced Leader: You bring at least 5 years of experience in Youth Development and curriculum design, with 2-3 years of experience leading and coaching a team.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree preferred (Education or equivalent experience).
  • Forward-Thinking & Curious: You possess a deep love of learning and a natural curiosity about emerging research in education and youth trends, allowing you to keep programming modern and culturally relevant.
  • Relationship Builder: You have exceptional interpersonal savvy and communication skills, with the ability to confidently connect with everyone from a 7-year-old Club member to a corporate donor or board member.
  • Data-Driven & Organized: You are organized, can handle shifting priorities calmly under pressure, and value data-driven decision-making to prove program success.

Requirements
  • Ability to earn/maintain mandatory CPR & First Aid certification.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility to drive a BGCM vehicle.
  • Must pass a criminal and driving records background check.

Job Performance Expectations
  • Accountability & Quality: Commitment to youth development, resource stewardship, and continuous program improvement.
  • Integrity & Ethics: Operating with honesty, fairness, transparency, and professional consistency.
  • Teamwork: Building meaningful, considerate, and positive relationships across the organization.
