Job Description: After School Adventures - Group Leader

Location: MISD Elementary Campus 

Position Title: After School Adventures - Group Leader

Terms of Employment: As Needed

Position Reports to: After School Adventures - Site Manager

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred; Associate's degree or 60 hours from an accredited college or university preferred
  2. Certification in Child Care or SBEC certification preferred
  3. Experience working with school-age children required
  4. Ability to work well with children and provide positive behavior management techniques and developmentally appropriate activities
  5. Ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms with staff, children and parents in the program; Spanish for bilingual campuses preferred
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of child development theories and practices related to the physical, intellectual and social development of school-age students required
  7. Demonstrates the ability to work well with others and to serve as a positive role model to the children

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assist the Site Manager in the implementation of program designed curriculum and daily operations at the assigned campus
  2. Adhere to all procedures and expectations outlined in district and program handbooks in order to serve as a role model to participants of the program
  3. Lead a group of children with diverse abilities and needs to ensure safety and well-being of students at the assigned campus
  4. Keep an ongoing count of those participating in assigned group/area to ensure safety and proper supervision of the children at all times
  5. Conduct provided activities and character development practices with children according to the program schedule
  6. Adhere to proper behavior management techniques as outlined by district standards
  7. Communicate clearly and effectively in a positive manner with children, parents, colleagues, visitors, and other district personnel
  8. Ensure maintenance and appropriate use of all building facilities, resources, supplies and equipment with care and pride; including organization, cleanliness and daily set-up of the program
  9. Support the implementation of regular safety drills and procedures
  10. Acknowledge all visitors and maintain a secure environment
  11. Attend and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives (ie. trainings, leadership meetings, etc.)
  12. Meet assigned deadlines
  13. Perform other duties as assigned

Maintain emotional control under stress. Lifting more than 30 pounds. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
