Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

A shop hourly position with the primary responsibilities of ensuring the accurate and timely kitting of materials in support of the plant production lines. The Kit Assembler III is junior mechanic who is directed by the Shift Leader of the Kitting Department and may be flexed to other areas within the warehouse as assigned. The purpose for every position at BAC regardless of department or level can be summed up as doing the right thing in the right way.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Plan and coordinate the flow of materials in support of the plant manufacturing process; provide a high level of customer focus to plant production.
  • Perform timely and accurate kitting of materials required to process job.
  • Identify kit shortages and coordinate solution in partnership with purchasing.
  • Collaborate with various departments and plant employees to ensure on-time business goals are met.
  • Able to flex to different areas of the warehouse to achieve department goals.
  • Understand the basics of departmental metrics
  • Maintains and updates data in Peoplesoft, Access databases, and Production Status Boards.
  • Accurately complete paperwork or online data entry required by department.
  • Maintains and sustain 5S standards in the department.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and projects.
  • Safely operate JIB cranes to lift, move, and position components.
  • Contribute to departmental safety improvements and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by plant leadership.

NATURE & SCOPE

Reports to the Shift Leader or other supervisor as assigned. Prepared to fulfill department roles as needed.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Effective written and verbal communication with supervisors, co-workers, and customers that is professional, concise, accurate and clearly understood.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in initiative, problem solving, and working in a “team” environment.
  • High level of product knowledge of BAC’s numerous models and parts.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate JIB cranes; achieved through required certification.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and ability to support root cause analysis for identified quality issues. Specific focus on reducing lean waste including transportation, waiting, and Inventory.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management systems (e.g. ERP).
  • Working knowledge of computers including word processing, spreadsheets and databases, i.e. Word, Excel, Access, and PeopleSoft.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret various plant communications, including but not limited to, the Production Schedule, Fab Sheets, and related job paperwork.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Supply Chain Kitting Process.
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment, including but not limited to, Forklifts, the Crown, Stock Picker, and Walkie.
  • Computer competency with MS Excel including updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted spreadsheets.
  • A minimum of one year experience in Supply Chain, Material handling, or Inventory is preferred.
  • Competent in math including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional computations, and fraction to decimal conversions.
  • Ability to use handheld measuring tools including tape measure, micrometer, and protractor.
  • Flexibility to work in multiple department work areas and adapt to change.
  • Understands and adheres to Lean principles in the area.
  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and instructions of ISO for area of assignment to ensure quality.
  • Thorough knowledge of all hazards related to cranes, fixtures and related safety sensitive areas of the department and plant.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to work on cross functional teams in support of plant objectives.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Occasional work at heights of up to 30 feet. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
