Our Dassault Systemes SIMULIA brand provides best-in-class simulation technologies integrated into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in the most effective way possible. The Fluids group in SIMULIA consists of a world-class group of experts who develop the next generation of fluids solver capabilities. As part of SIMULIA software simulation products, these innovations impact how Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used in many industrial settings worldwide.
We are looking for a CFD engineer with AI experience who can test and validate our AI-infused fluids technology. This is a paid six month internship/co-op. The position is based at the Dassault Systemes Office at 175 Wyman Street, Waltham, MA.
We are developing the next generation of Computational Fluid Dynamics technologies spanning advanced numerical methods, machine learning surrogate models, and agentic AI capabilities. Our vision is to transform engineering simulation by combining physics-based modeling, data-driven methods, and AI workflows into an integrated engineering platform.
We are seeking a highly motivated intern with interests spanning CFD, artificial intelligence, and product development.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering simulation, AI, and product development. The intern will collaborate closely with software developers, AI engineers, and product managers to evaluate new capabilities, provide technical feedback, and help shape the future direction of AI-enabled engineering software. The position combines rigorous engineering validation with product-focused testing, ensuring that emerging technologies meet the standards required for industrial CFD applications.
We will provide you with the steps, tools, and leadership that will help advance your career at Dassault Systemes and help our customers reach their goals.
In this role you will:
  • Perform industrially-relevant CFD simulations
  • Validate machine learning surrogate models against high-fidelity CFD simulations and experimental data where appropriate
  • Test and validate new CFD solver capabilities, including verification of flow physics across representative engineering applications
  • Evaluate and test emerging AI-driven and agentic CFD workflows
  • Assess the quality, reliability, and usefulness of AI-generated engineering outputs
  • Work directly with developers to identify usability issues, performance gaps, and opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with product managers to define validation requirements, prioritize product improvements, and refine future capabilities
  • Document validation results, recommendations, and technical findings for both engineering and product teams

Qualifications
REQUIRED
  • Pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of CFD fundamentals including Navier-Stokes algorithms and turbulence modeling
  • Experience with one or more CFD tools such as: ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, Simcenter FLOEFD, COMSOL Multiphysics, or similar CFD software
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate technical systems critically and provide actionable feedback.

Preferred
  • Experience applying machine learning to engineering or scientific problems
  • Experience developing or validating surrogate models or reduced-order models
  • Familiarity with large language models, generative AI, or agentic AI systems
  • Understanding of AI agents, multi-agent systems, or agentic workflows.
  • Exposure to simulation automation, scripting, or workflow orchestration.
  • Experience with Python and scientific computing libraries.
