Overview

Scalar is seeking a highly motivated Associate to join its Valuation Services Group in Draper, Utah. This role is responsible for performing business valuations and financial modeling for tax, financial reporting, and transaction advisory purposes.

This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a high-performance environment, enjoy solving complex financial problems, and are motivated to take ownership of their work while developing deep technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform valuations for financial reporting and tax compliance purposes, including purchase price allocations, goodwill impairment analyses, common stock valuations, derivative valuations, solvency opinions, and fairness opinions
  • Build and maintain complex financial models, including discounted cash flow analyses, market-based approaches, and option-pricing models
  • Manage valuation engagements from inception to completion, including due diligence, management interviews, financial analysis, and report preparation
  • Collaborate with clients, auditors, legal counsel, board members, and institutional investors to deliver high-quality, defensible analyses
  • Prepare clear, well-supported valuation reports and presentations
  • Support multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Completed an internship in business valuation, investment banking, transaction advisory, or a related field
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Ability to independently solve complex, ambiguous problems with limited supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of accountability, attention to detail, and intellectual curiosity
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with or willingness to leverage AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT or similar platforms) to enhance productivity and analytical workflows
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with demanding timelines
  • Willingness to pursue and obtain a valuation credential (e.g., ASA, CVA, CFA)
