The State of Wisconsin's flight department is a professional team that serves a diverse customer base of state government entities, including State officials and officers. Our team of mechanics, pilots, and staff focus on good customer service and passenger safety as we assist state government in providing important public services across the state. Wisconsin Enterprise Air Services operates a fleet consisting of four turbine engines and 15 piston engine aircraft. This position provides an opportunity to join the ranks of state public service and participate in the generous state benefit plan.

Position Summary
The Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor supervises the Aircraft Maintenance Program and Aircraft Mechanics in the Wisconsin Air Services Section and reports to the Wisconsin Air Services Chief (Enterprise Program Section Chief), working under general supervision. This position provides technical leadership, supervision of maintenance personnel and oversight of maintenance operation to ensure the safety, reliability and regulatory compliance of the state aircraft fleet.
The Aircraft Maintenance Program is responsible for inspection, technical maintenance, and repair work on the enterprise fleet of state-owned aircraft, including: 1998 Beechcraft King Air 350, three 2001 Pilatus PC-12s, Cessna 172s, Cessna 337, and single-engine Cessna aircraft used by the Department of Administration, Department of Natural Resources, and Department of Transportation to fulfill business operations. These aircraft support a variety of missions including executive transport, natural resource management, law enforcement support and other state operational needs.
The fleet includes aircraft with advanced systems, such as Garmin 1000 avionics and Bendix King EFS 40/50 systems, as well as Pratt and Whitney PT6 turbine engine systems.
The Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high standards for the program, in accordance with the FARs and accepted industry standards for maintenance and record keeping, providing final authorization on aircraft worthiness for return to service, coordinating maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime, and monitoring the program's expenditures.
Additional responsibilities include supervising aircraft maintenance staff, assigning and reviewing work, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, coordinating with pilots and operational staff regarding aircraft status, and maintaining accurate aircraft maintenance records and documentation.
This position may function as an aircraft mechanic during periods of critical needs or staff shortages and may perform hands-on inspection, maintenance and repair work as necessary to support fleet readiness.

Salary Information
Starting salary for the Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor (81-03) will be between $74,880 and $96,907.20 annually. A 12-month probationary period may be required. Pay for current state employees will be in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Candidates who meet license requirements to pilot may receive an additional $5.00/hr for in flight status.

Job Details
Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following :
  1. Experience performing general aviation aircraft maintenance, airframe repair and modification, and troubleshooting of electrical or avionics systems
  2. Possession of an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate

More than qualified candidates will have the following :
  • Experience leading a team and/or supervising employees (e.g., hiring, directing the work of other employees, providing performance goals and standards, scheduling, training, counseling employees, etc.)
  • Possession of an Inspector Authorization (IA) Certificate
Hired candidate will be expected to obtain an Inspector Authorization (IA) Certification within the first 12 months of employment if not already in possession of one.
