Full-Time | Guaranteed 40 Hours per Week
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly capable O&M Lead Technician to serve as the primary on-site Operator representative for large battery energy storage facilities consisting of BESS, medium-voltage transformers, a main power transformer, and associated substation equipment.
This role is not a rotating project assignment. This is the designated field lead responsible for executing the contractual Operations & Maintenance obligations under long-term O&M Agreements.
The technician will operate with significant autonomy and professional accountability, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, responding to system events and emergencies, managing spare parts inventory, supporting NERC-related operational requirements, maintaining compliance with HSSE standards, and producing detailed operational reporting.
This position is best suited for a disciplined, high-trust technician who understands utility-scale power infrastructure, high-voltage environments, and the operational expectations of grid-connected assets.
Core Responsibilities
1. Preventative & Corrective Maintenance
  • Execute Preventative Maintenance Services in accordance with the Annual Maintenance Service Plan
  • Perform corrective maintenance on Covered Equipment, including:
    • Tier 1 BESS equipment
    • Medium-voltage transformers
    • Main power transformer
    • Switchgear and protection systems
    • Communication and telemetry equipment
  • Maintain system condition consistent with Prudent Industry Practices and OEM requirements

2. Emergency & System Event Response
  • Respond to site Emergencies and System Events within contractual response time requirements
  • Immediately mitigate safety or equipment risks
  • Support emergency corrective actions to prevent material loss or system capacity impact
  • Provide detailed written event notifications and follow-up reports within required timeframes

3. Substation & High-Voltage Operations
  • Perform switching activities in accordance with approved procedures
  • Support medium-voltage and substation interface troubleshooting
  • Assist with outages, breaker operations, and coordination with the utility (Oncor)
  • Maintain awareness of interconnection and grid compliance obligations

4. NERC / Operational Compliance Support
  • Support Generator Operator (GOP) functions as applicable
  • Maintain operational logs and event documentation
  • Ensure work aligns with NERC Reliability Standards where required
  • Assist with compliance audits and documentation retention

5. Metering, Telemetry & Monitoring
  • Support meter testing and calibration coordination
  • Maintain telemetry and communications functionality
  • Troubleshoot communications failures and restore within required timeframes

6. Spare Parts & Inventory Management
  • Act as on-site custodian of Spare Parts inventory
  • Track serialized and non-serialized parts
  • Maintain minimum inventory levels
  • Coordinate procurement with Customer
  • Ensure accurate monthly inventory reporting

7. Reporting & Documentation
  • Produce clear, detailed service reports and maintenance logs
  • Contribute to Monthly and Annual operational reporting
  • Document outages, forced events, lost production, and corrective actions
  • Maintain digital records in alignment with contractual reporting requirements
  • Support warranty and insurance claim documentation

8. Safety & HSSE Compliance
  • Follow LOTO and energized work protocols
  • Comply with HSSE requirements and site safety standards
  • Maintain safe handling and disposal of oils, lubricants, and hazardous materials
  • Participate in safety training and audits

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years hands-on electrical experience in one or more of the following:
    • Utility-scale power generation
    • Substation operations
    • High-voltage or medium-voltage environments
    • Battery energy storage systems
    • Industrial power systems
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting capability in power systems
  • Experience working with MV (5kV-35kV) systems
  • Ability to read single-line diagrams, protection schematics, and OEM manuals
  • Working knowledge of safe switching practices
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work outdoors in industrial environments

Strongly Preferred
  • Substation high-voltage experience
  • Prior utility-scale BESS experience
  • Familiarity with transformer diagnostics and breaker testing
  • NERC familiarity or Generator Operator exposure
  • NFPA 70E certification
  • State electrical license or formal electrical training
  • OEM certifications helpful, but not necessary
