Job description

Position Summary:

CES Consulting is seeking an ITS & Communications Maintenance Technician to support the reliable operation of critical transportation infrastructure. This role focuses on maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of intelligent transportation system (ITS) devicesincluding fiber networks, CCTV cameras, dynamic message signs (CMS), roadway weather sensors, and other field equipment. Your work directly contributes to safe, efficient, and dependable regional traffic operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair failures in communication systems, cameras, digital message signs, sensors, and other ITS field devices.
  • Perform responsive and preventative maintenance to maximize system uptime and ensure equipment reliability.
  • Respond to service calls, alarms, and device outages; conduct remote and on-site troubleshooting using laptops, network tools, and electronic test equipment.
  • Participate in a regular on-call rotation and provide occasional emergency response to restore failed devices quickly and safely.
  • Monitor device and network performance, identify root-cause issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, test results, inventory, and equipment status using digital reporting tools.
  • Work safely in outdoor roadside environments and on elevated platforms as needed, following all safety protocols.

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic devices using computers, diagnostic tools, and test equipment.
  • Understanding of communication networks, device connectivity, and basic cybersecurity considerations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate maintenance activities to end users and accurately documenting information in maintenance logs.
  • Strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a high sense of responsibility and ownership.
  • Highly reliable, team-oriented, and able to work independently in the field while managing multiple priorities.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record for operation of company vehicles.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check in accordance with project and agency requirements.
  • Work zone safety certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience maintaining ITS equipment, fiber optic systems, low-voltage electronics, or surveillance devices.
  • Field experience working outdoors, around active traffic, or in aerial/ground-level environments.
  • Familiarity with IP-based devices, network monitoring tools, or security systems.
  • Resourcefulness, curiosity, and a proactive approach to learning new technologies.
