What is a certified sales advisor?

A Certified Sales Advisor is a sales professional who has completed specialized training and certification to demonstrate expertise in sales techniques, customer service, and product knowledge. This certification often involves passing exams and meeting certain industry standards, ensuring that the advisor can provide high-quality service and guidance to customers. Certified Sales Advisors typically work in retail, automotive, or financial sectors, helping clients make informed purchasing decisions. Their certification signals a commitment to ethical sales practices and continuous professional development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a certified sales advisor?

To thrive as a Certified Sales Advisor, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and a relevant certification such as Certified Professional Sales Person (CPSP) or equivalent. Familiarity with CRM systems, sales analytics tools, and point-of-sale platforms is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal communication, active listening, and persuasive negotiation skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for building client trust, exceeding sales targets, and driving business growth in competitive markets.

How does a certified sales advisor typically collaborate with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction?

Certified Sales Advisors frequently work closely with departments such as inventory management, finance, and customer service to provide a seamless buying experience. For example, they may coordinate with inventory teams to confirm product availability or work with finance staff to help customers arrange payment options. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Advisors often act as the main point of contact for customers, relaying their needs and feedback to the appropriate internal teams. This collaborative approach helps ensure customer satisfaction and smooth sales operations.

This role is ideal for an advisor who thrives in discovery conversations, relationship-building, and closing new client relationships, while partnering closely with Lead Advisors and the service team to deliver a world-class client experience.

At Hilltop, we lead with our three core values:
Humble Steward – We honor the responsibility entrusted to us and serve with integrity and humility.
Hungry Learner – We pursue mastery through curiosity and continuous growth.
Better Together – We succeed through collaboration, shared goals, and unified effort.

Responsibilities Include

• Lead discovery, qualification, and closing conversations with prospective clients
• Convert ideal prospects into long-term Hilltop clients
• Identify opportunities to expand assets and planning relationships with existing clients
• Cultivate client referrals and Centers of Influence (CPAs, attorneys, etc.)
• Represent Hilltop professionally in community and growth-oriented settings
• Partner with Lead Advisors to ensure a seamless onboarding and transition experience
• Collaborate with planning, investment, and client service teams to support growth initiatives

Typical Skills and Knowledge Requirements

• Extensive experience working with high-net-worth families
• Strong understanding of comprehensive financial planning concepts
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, empathy, and listening)
• Demonstrates personal integrity and sound judgment
• High emotional intelligence and comfort leading client conversations
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple opportunities
• Familiarity with tools such as eMoney, Holistiplan, and Nitrogen preferred

Experience and Education Requirements

• 7–12+ years of experience in financial advisory services or wealth management
• Bachelor’s degree required
• CFP® certification required
• Series 65 required
• Desire to work directly with prospective and existing clients
• Strong self-leadership, professionalism, and technology aptitude

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive base salary ($150,000 - $200,000)
• Participation in Hilltop’s firm-wide revenue incentive pool
• Bonus opportunities tied to net-new assets
• Structured career track with long-term growth and equity potential

Hilltop offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) with employer match, generous paid time off, volunteer time off, flexible work-from-home policy (up to five days per month, with Monday and Thursday designated for in-office collaboration), and ongoing educational reimbursement opportunities.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter describing your experience in wealth management, your interest in a growth-focused advisory role, and how Hilltop’s core values align with your own.
