Job description

Summary: Doulas play a key role in the success of the GROWTH with Doulas and Dads Program, by maintaining a caseload of pregnant mothers and engaging in community outreach to recruit eligible families and completing the intake process with those families, as needed. The outreach covers Central Florida. This includes counties such as Hillsborough, Orange, Osceola and Seminole. As a Doula, you will provide home visits, group services, and referrals to help mothers build the foundation for their family's health and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Duties and Scope of Responsibilities

  • Provides childbirth education and support services in the home and in the community
  • Demonstrates a non-judgmental orientation when working with families and treats all individuals with respect, regardless of differing cultures, religions, sexual and gender identities, values, philosophies, and lifestyles
  • Able to maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with families and providers
  • Completes accurate and timely completion of written assessments of families to assist with evaluation and the quality improvement of program
  • Identifies and coordinates with formal/informal supports, community based resources, medical and hospital staff
  • Educates and reviews child development and parenting practices with caregivers to promote an increase in healthy parenting behaviors and attachment
  • Completes administrative documentation requirements as outlined in agency policy
  • Performs other special assignments, outreach, or miscellaneous duties as requested
  • Performs on-call duties as assigned

Special Skills/Licenses/Training/Certifications Necessary:

  • Credentialed as a Certified Birth Doula
  • Experience working with children and families preferred
  • Familiarity with social services compliance and training protocols/requirements.
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential data
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and multi-task to meet important deadlines.
  • Bilingual Spanish skills a plus

Education/Training/Experience

Home visiting experience preferred.

Use of general office equipment (computer, keyboards, telephones, copy and telefax machines). May require minimal filing. Driving/operation of a vehicle.
