Job description

Gastroenterology Physician Opportunity

Physician needed for locum tenens coverage in Petoskey, Michigan. This hospital-based position offers clinical and call coverage from ASAP to ongoing. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 7a to 4:30p. Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are covered.

Coverage dates include:

  • Aug 21, 2026 – Aug 24, 2026
  • Sep 25, 2026 – Oct 08, 2026
  • Aug 28, 2026 – Sep 10, 2026

Average daily volume is 38 scopes (18 outpatient, 20 inpatient). The EMR system is Cerner, and onsite lab and XRay are available. There are two physicians and two advanced practice providers available as specialty backup, along with support staff.

Required procedures include endoscopy (upper and lower) and inpatient consults.

Job requirements:

  • Board: Board certified (will consider truly board eligible)
  • Licenses: Active Michigan (MI) license and CSR; universal license (IMLC) acceptable if dates 60+ days out
  • DEA: Active DEA required (verbal confirmation at name clear)
  • Certifications: ACLS
  • Experience: Completed fellowship with minimum 2–3 years of experience required
  • Other qualifications: Local candidates only (driving distance); COVID vaccine required; clean background (minor malpractice acceptable)

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform outpatient and inpatient endoscopy procedures (upper and lower)
  • Provide inpatient GI consultations within scheduled hours
  • Cover 24-hour weekend call (Sat/Sun) without weeknight call
  • Document patient encounters in Cerner EMR
  • Collaborate with on-site physicians and APPs to deliver comprehensive care
