Job Description

We are seeking an experienced HL7 Developer to design, develop, and maintain healthcare data interfaces that enable seamless interoperability between clinical systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in HL7 standards, healthcare data workflows, and integration engines, ensuring accurate, secure, and compliant data exchange across systems. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop, and maintain HL7 interfaces (v2.x, v3, CDA, FHIR) between healthcare systems  
  • Build and support integrations with EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Allscripts)  
  • Configure and manage integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf)  
  • Analyze, transform, and map healthcare data formats and message structures  
  • Troubleshoot interface issues, message failures, and data discrepancies  
  • Implement data validation, error handling, and logging mechanisms  
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and healthcare data security standards  
  • Collaborate with clinical, technical, and vendor teams to define integration requirements  
  • Support real-time and batch data exchange workflows  
  • Maintain documentation for interfaces, mappings, and workflows  

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field  
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare IT, interface development, or systems integration.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR, X12, or other healthcare messaging standards.
  • Experienced in Java, JavaScript, or similar scripting languages  
  • Experience with JSON, RESTful APIs , and XML
  • Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x messaging standards (ADT, ORU, ORM, etc.)  
  • Experience with FHIR APIs and modern interoperability frameworks  
  • Hands-on experience with integration engines (Mirth Connect preferred)  
  • Understanding of healthcare workflows and clinical data  
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. 
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with HL7 v3, CDA/CCD documents  
  • Familiarity with FHIR resources and SMART on FHIR  
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, DICOM, X12)  
  • Experience integrating with Epic, Cerner, or other major EHR systems  
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)  
  • Certification in HL7 or healthcare integration technologies

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Indiana is $135,800.00–$203,750.00.
