Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level IV NICU RN with 2+ years of NICU IV experience and recent trach/vent experience for a Level 1 Trauma teaching children's hospital.

  • 70 dedicated NICU beds out of 323 total inpatient beds
  • Cares for neonates across all gestational ages, including under 24-28 weeks, 29-34 weeks, and over 34 weeks
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity, ranging from 1:1 to 1:4, with 1:2 being most common
  • Manages complex conditions including congenital heart defects, ECMO, respiratory distress and failure, pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, and genetic/metabolic disorders
  • 3x12 hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) shifts with rotation required every 3-4 weeks
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Floats within scope to other critical care units (PICU/CICU) as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
  • Active DC RN license required (pending license accepted with proof of application, but must be active before start)
  • MD/VA applicants require compact or state license
  • Minimum 2 years of Level IV NICU IV experience required
  • Recent tracheostomy and ventilator management experience required (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
  • BLS certification required; NRP and PALS preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, and administration of blood/blood products and emergency medications
  • Experience with neonatal feeding methods (bottle, breast, gavage) and NG/NJ tube placement/management
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and sepsis workup
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • First-time travelers not accepted
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive critical care to premature and critically ill newborns at the highest level of neonatal care as designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics
  • Work alongside on-site pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists and pediatric anesthesiologists
  • Support complex surgical procedures for congenital or acquired conditions
  • Coordinate care for coagulation defects, congenital heart defects, ECMO, GI disorders, renal disorders, and septic shock
  • Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital environment
  • Scrubs may be any color but must be logo-free and child-friendly
  • Local candidates accepted with no mileage restriction at the same bill rate
  • Maximum 7 days RTO; full-week RTO requires making up missed shifts at the end of the contract
  • Missed shifts must be made up within the same week
  • Returning travelers must have been separated from the facility for at least 1 year
  • No background check or license hits permitted, with no exemptions
  • Photo required upon contract signature if offered and accepted
