They ensure the workspace stays clean and organized while following safety protocols. Some roles may also involve glazing, mixing materials, or assisting with workshops and events. This position is ideal for those who enjoy hands-on work and have a passion for ceramics.
Ceramic Studio Assistants are typically responsible for preparing materials, wedging clay, loading and unloading kilns, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and assisting with glazing or firing processes. They may also help instructors during classes, set up workstations for students, and ensure all safety protocols are followed. Some studios ask assistants to help with inventory, customer service, or even minor equipment repairs. This hands-on role offers a dynamic environment where every day can bring new challenges and opportunities to learn both technical and creative skills.
To thrive as a Ceramic Studio Assistant, you need hands-on proficiency in ceramics techniques, attention to detail, and basic knowledge of studio equipment and safety, often gained through experience or relevant coursework. Familiarity with tools such as kilns, pottery wheels, glazes, and proper equipment maintenance procedures is highly valued. Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively make someone stand out in this position. These competencies ensure smooth studio operations, support creative projects, and contribute to a safe and productive work environment.
