GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the administrative direction of the President/CEO and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic leadership for the financial health and long-term sustainability of Macon Resources, Inc. The CFO is responsible for developing and executing the organization's financial strategy while ensuring strong fiscal stewardship, profitability of business operations, effective capital management, enterprise risk management, and long-term financial planning.
The CFO oversees all financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, treasury management, investments, reimbursement optimization, business analytics, purchasing, information technology, and revenue cycle functions. The CFO serves as a strategic advisor to the President/CEO and Board of Directors, providing financial insight that supports organizational growth, operational excellence, and mission fulfillment while meeting all applicable local, state and federal laws; licensure/certification/accreditation regulations and agency policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute the organization's long-term financial strategy aligned with the agency's strategic plan.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the President/CEO and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial performance while advancing the agency's mission.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities, acquisitions, partnerships, and investments through financial analysis and risk assessment.
  • Develop financial models supporting expansion of programs, new business ventures, and earned revenue initiatives.
  • Lead organizational financial planning to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Lead strategic planning initiatives with the CEO.
  • Evaluate mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
  • Develop multi-year financial forecasts.
  • Lead organizational capital planning.
  • Oversee investment strategy and reserve management.

Financial Stewardship
  • Direct all accounting, finance, treasury, payroll, purchasing, and financial reporting activities.

  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor monthly financial performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee cash flow, liquidity, debt management, investments, and banking relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, grant requirements, and audit standards.
  • Lead the annual independent audit and preparation of IRS Form 990.

Financial Analysis
  • Develop financial dashboards and key performance indicators.
  • Analyze profitability of business enterprises and service lines.
  • Recommend pricing strategies for manufacturing, employment services, commercial contracts, and other earned revenue activities.
  • Perform cost analyses and margin improvement initiatives.
  • Lead forecasting and scenario planning for changing funding environments.

Enterprise Risk Management
  • Identify financial and operational risks affecting the organization.
  • Develop internal controls protecting organizational assets.
  • Ensure appropriate insurance coverages and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain business continuity and financial contingency planning.

Revenue Growth
  • Identify opportunities to diversify revenue sources.
  • Evaluate reimbursement methodologies and maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Support grant development through financial planning and sustainability analyses.
  • Develop financial strategies that increase unrestricted revenue and operating margins.

Technology and Systems
  • Oversee financial systems, ERP software, cybersecurity related to financial operations, and information technology.
  • Lead financial technology improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Ensure financial reporting systems provide accurate and timely information.

Board Relations
  • Present financial reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as primary staff liaison to the Finance Committee and Investment Committee.
  • Assist the Board in understanding financial trends, organizational risks, and strategic opportunities.

Leadership
  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives.
  • Develop high-performing finance and administrative teams.
  • Screens job applicants, conducts interviews, and selects applicant to recommend for hire.
  • Establishes and communicates performance standards and objectives and conducts performance appraisals after 90-days and annually using Paycom.
  • Promotes and monitors staff training to meet all agency requirements, certification and licensure standards.
  • Utilizing Paycom, recommends hirings, promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
  • Monitors operations and staff; when necessary, recommends changes in methods, procedures, structure, and additions and changes in personnel to secure optimum utilization of resources.
  • Communicates with staff regarding current problems, changes, and new developments in the agency by conducting periodic meetings.
  • Administers all policies and procedures as developed by MRI; communicates to staff, interprets as necessary, and confirms compliance.
  • Develops and mentors leadership skills, particularly in the management techniques of planning, organizing, leading, and supervising through continued coaching and feedback performance.
  • Actively participates as a member of the MRI Senior Leadership Team and Quality Assurance Committee.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Assumes the responsibility to attend and complete the initial MRI training requirements (core training and job-specific training). On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required recertification or refresher sessions and/or other training deemed appropriate by the supervisor and/or the Program/Department Director within specified time frames.
  • Assists the President/CEO in promoting the agency within the community. Represents the agency in a positive manner through written and verbal communication.
  • Participates in local, state, and national activities to promote and enhance services for individuals with disabilities and their families and communicates issues to the President/CEO.
  • Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
  • Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of staff, persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property.
  • Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.
  • Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. MBA, CPA, or CMA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive financial leadership experience. Executive leadership experience preferred. Experience in nonprofit finance, healthcare, manufacturing, or human services preferred. Experience with organizations exceeding $20 million in annual revenue preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficient abilities and experience with a variety of computerized financial data processing systems and informational technology.
