Job description

Salary: $20/hour

Why Choose Huston Electric?

Huston Electric, a full-service electrical contractor serving customers throughout Indiana, is seeking a full-time Central Receptionist to be the friendly voice of our company across all five of our locations! This is a phone-first role so, if you love talking to people, juggling a busy switchboard, and making sure every caller feels taken care of, this is the seat for you.

We're offering $20/hour, based on experience, along with a competitive benefits package for full-time employees, including:

  • Paid vacation
  • Paid company holidays
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Pension plan
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage

This position is based at our Lafayette, IN office. Working hours are 8 AM5 PM with a one-hour lunch.

Training:

To set you up for success, your first 4-6 weeks will be spent getting to know each of our locations and the teams you'll be supporting. All training-related expenses are covered, including mileage, fuel, meals, and hotels where applicable. **Schedule is subject to change:

  • Week 1: Lafayette (home office)
  • Week 2: Kokomo
  • Week 3: Westfield
  • Bloomington (TBD)

What You'll Do:

  • Answer a high volume of incoming calls for all five Huston Electric locations, providing a warm, professional first impression. You'll be the very first "hello" most people get from our company.
  • Accurately screen and route calls to the right person, department, or location, keeping a working knowledge of our team and divisions.
  • Take clear, complete messages when a call can't be transferred, and follow up to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Keep an eye on the main phone line throughout the day so no call goes unanswered.
  • Greet visitors at the front desk with the same friendly energy you bring to the phones.
  • Help with small, quick administrative tasks here and there (think: sorting mail, light data entry) but never anything that pulls you away from the phones, which will always be your top priority.
  • Check company PO mailbox weekly
  • Own your schedule. This role is critical to our operations, and we need to know that phones are always covered. That means planning ahead for time off and any absence, and communicating with plenty of notice. Emergencies happen and we understand that, but proactive planning is a core expectation of this position from day one.

Who We're Looking For:

  • 12 years of experience in a receptionist, front desk, or customer service role.
  • Someone who has managed a multi-line phone system before.
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys answering phones and treats every caller like they matter (because they do).
  • Calm under pressure - comfortable juggling several calls at once without missing a beat.
  • Clear, friendly, professional phone voice and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to track who's calling, why, and where it needs to go.
  • Coachable, dependable, and a genuine team player.
  • Comfortable with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic office software.

A Note on This Role:

We want to be upfront this is a phones-first, customer service position, and that's not going to change. We're not looking for someone who wants to move into other areas. We're looking for someone who genuinely loves this work and takes real pride in doing it well. If that's you, we'd love to talk!
