Job Title: Central Processing Department Educator

Experience: 3+ years of recent experience as an Educator or Supervisor in Central Processing/Operating Room, or 6+ years of experience as a Central Processing Technician with progressive responsibility.
License: Certification by a recognized association in Central Processing or related field.
Certifications: Certification in Healthcare Sterile Processing or equivalent.
Must-Have: Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Description:
Reports to the Central Processing Department Director.
Responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs for staff that are competency-based.
Recommends improvements in the quality of services provided by the Central Processing Department.
Serves as a resource to staff.
Implements all aspects of the training and orientation program, including job shadowing and teaching formal classes.
Performs systematic follow-up procedures with all trainees and orientees to ensure competency of basic Central Processing skills and integration into their specific roles.
Provides feedback on the performance of trainees and recommends continuation of employment.
Prepares and trains new staff to ensure that policies and practices are followed.
Identifies skill sets and follows up with appropriate plans.
Demonstrates ability to evaluate and interview candidates and make recommendations regarding suitability for the organization.
Coordinates with charge nurses and nurse educators to schedule and administer clinical rotations for new employees and/or students.
Applies principles of adult learning effectively.
Uses analytical ability to address clinical issues and conduct quality improvement projects.
Possesses advanced interpersonal and writing skills to develop educational programs and communicate with the team.
Maintains basic computer proficiency for accessing information systems.
Exhibits organizational skills to set priorities and complete assigned work efficiently.
Evaluates the clinical competence of trainees and probationary employees.
Exhibits effective communication skills in English; multilingual skills preferred.
Demonstrates physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
Evaluates department needs to develop training programs.
Tracks, analyzes, and reports on training activities and enrollment patterns.
Educates staff on new Central Processing technologies and policy changes.
Coordinates assigned programs such as Competency, Orientation, and In-service Programs.
Monitors progress of technicians preparing for certification exams.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of staff and to provide instruction.
Communicates in an articulate and effective manner, both verbally and in writing.
Provides constructive feedback to learners to enhance self-esteem.
Assists in maintaining compliance with standards.
Develops and evaluates educational programs for staff.
Serves as a liaison to establish collaborative training programs.
Utilizes an incident reporting system for trending improvement areas.
Follows up on incidents to assist in root cause analysis and training material development.
Remains knowledgeable of quality improvement projects and assists in developing training plans.
Utilizes evidence-based findings to enhance practices.
Demonstrates critical thinking and conducts research effectively.
Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge of technology and standards.
Assumes responsibility for keeping current with adult education theory and methods.
Provides assistance for special projects and initiatives as required.
Attends meetings as necessary.
Follows established infection control and safety procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned or necessary.
Adheres to behavioral standards in all interactions.
