Customer Service Assistant - Adult Services Department

The Central Library Adult Services Department has an opening for a Customer Service Assistant to provide excellent customer service, systemwide support and staff various zones on two floors. The Customer Service Assistant helps customers navigate library services, and ensures our spaces are organized, inviting, and accessible. Whether you're assisting with checkouts, guiding users through technology, or supporting library programs, your work will make a meaningful impact every day
Located in the heart of downtown Tulsa at Fifth and Denver, the Central Library serves as a beacon for the Tulsa City-County Library by providing the support services for the entire system of 25 buildings.
Location: 400 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK.
Salary: $14.42 / hour
Status: Part-Time, 20 hours / week
Schedule:
Monday: 10 am - 2 pm
Tuesday: 9 am - 1 pm
Thursday: 9 am - 1 pm
Friday 9 am - 6 pm
Alternating every other week working Friday 10 am - 2 pm and Sunday 1 pm - 5 pm
Essential Functions and Qualifications Include:
  • Provides general information in person and by phone assisting customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library, referring reference questions to the appropriate resource;
  • Assists customers with self check-out machines by instructing how to charge, renew, and discharge library materials to/from customers;
  • Enjoys a work atmosphere where staff are encouraged to be creative, be innovative and try something new;
  • Registers customers by issuing and updating library cards;
  • Sorts and routes returned materials to proper location and ensures that the library is neat and organized so customers can easily find what they need;
  • Assist customers with basic technology and a willingness to learn more; maker space and digital lab experience a plus;
  • Other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bilingual English - Spanish preferred
  • Some college coursework preferred
  • Previous customer service experience is a plus

Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions
For most positions work regularly requires stooping, bending and light lifting such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds). Some positions require moderate physical exertion, such as regularly lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) such as crates full of books or pushing heavy (up to 100 pounds) wheeled carts full of books, on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions.
