Job description

This Grinding Set-Up Operator/Machinist will primarily set-up and operate CNC cylindrical (O.D) grinders (e.g.Cincinnati, Royal Master, Kellenberger.) to produce high precision parts made from a variety of materials. In this role, you will ensure that all manufactured parts are in full compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.

This role is for 1st or 2nd shift. 1st shift is 7am-3:30. 2nd shift is 3:00 - 11:30pm

This role is 100% in office at our plant in East Hartford, CT.

2nd Shift has a 15% shift differential

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • The setup and operation of CNC centerless grinders
  • Working from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers or other specifications, this person sets-up and completes the machining operations to produce high precision parts.
  • Performs complex setups including fixturing, wheel selection, and dressing, for self and others. Operates equipment as needed.
  • Creates CNC programs on the machine and edits programs as necessary. Selects grinding wheels, tooling, gages, and other equipment as needed.
  • Assists other Operators with setup or production problems.
  • Ensures that all manufactured parts are in full compliance with quality standards. Uses measuring instruments and gages to perform dimensional and visual inspections on close tolerance parts.
  • Performs all routine maintenance on the equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required, including centerless grinding (in-feed and thru-feed) on equipment such as Cincinnati and Royal Master grinders.
  • Packs and cleans parts as needed.
  • Performs other machining and assembly operations as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience setting up and operating centerless grinding machines in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and understand GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Candidates should have experience setting up and operating the following equipment:

  • Cincinnati #2 Centerless Grinder with CNC Control
  • Cincinnati # I Centerless Grinder with CNC Control
  • Cincinnati #2 Thru-Feed Centerless Grinder with Digital Readout (DRO)
  • Royal Master Centerless Grinder with Bellows Attachment
  • Royal Master Thru-Feed Centerless Grinder
  • Kellenberger O.D. (Outside Diameter) Grinder

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand for up to 8+ hours
