Job description

Description
Forest Lawn is looking for a great addition to our Interments department. This individual would be responsible for completing a wide variety of tasks associated with performing interments, entombments and niche placements. Will also be assigned to install memorial tablets, flower vases, and lot markers. Will assist clients wherever needs arise and will perform grounds maintenance activities, which support interment functions. This individual may work alone or with a team of co-workers. This person will work under general supervision.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Perform initial preparation of interment spaces by first locating them in office map books and proceeding to location and measuring space to proper dimension.
  • Prepare interment locations for committal services using interment list reports provided by supervisor. Activities will include opening and closing space, assembling vault- lowering equipment, placing and lowering vaults and sealing lawn crypts.
  • Check interment locations for accuracy prior to completing assigned tasks.
  • Immediately informs supervisor of unsafe acts or conditions observed.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe operating order for both employees and clients by inspecting prior to each use.
  • Maintain work and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform wall crypt entombments and columbarium niche placements.
  • Operate a wide variety of power and hand equipment and tools including, shovels, rakes, brooms, scooters, generators, special utility vehicles, lowering devices, lifting devices, and trucks.
  • Frequently operate tractors and tractor-loader-backhoes.
  • Assist in placing tents as instructed for weather protection.
  • Install flower vases, memorial tablets, and cut-out letters.
  • Make minor adjustments to equipment (only with supervisor's prior approval)
  • Will make repairs to sunken interment locations to maintain level lawn appearance.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required.
  • May meet with client families whenever problems or complaints regarding memorial tablets arise. Quick resolution of complaints is essential to this customer service role.
  • Assists in the maintenance of adequate inventory of supplies, tools and materials needed for interment activities by informing supervisor when supplies are low.

Requirements
  • Valid California Driver License.
  • Able to push and pull 100 pounds and perform a one handed lift of 100 pounds from floor to waist level from the left and right sides.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years interment or other cemetery experience.
  • Prior equipment operating experience.
