Job description

Who is Flock?
Every community deserves to be safe, it's a fundamental right. Our mission is simple - to build technology that reduces crime and protects privacy. Flock partners with cities, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods to help protect where people live, work, and play. Last year, Flock technology supported over 1 million criminal investigations. We've also helped solve approximately 20% of reported crimes in areas where we're deployed, and have played a role in locating more than 10,000 missing people.
We are a high-performance team united by urgency, ownership, and a shared commitment to meaningful impact. The work is fast-paced and the expectations are high. We push beyond perceived limits, support each other, and hold ourselves accountable to delivering results that matter.
With over $1B in funding and an $8.3B valuation, we are scaling with intention and investing in the people who will help us build what others said could not be done. At Flock, you will find the opportunity to grow quickly, take on real responsibility, and contribute to something bigger than yourself.
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Software Engineer to own and significantly improve our integrated 5G connectivity solution across the entire stack. In this role, you will work directly with state-of-the-art cellular modems, architecting the bridge between our drone hardware and web-based systems.
As a technical leader in your discipline, you will:
  • Lead Advanced Integration: Drive the implementation of 5G features within the radio firmware, driver, and user space.
  • Optimize Multi-Link Performance: Integrate multiple cellular radio links into a single stream, optimizing for capacity, latency, and intelligent stream allocation across radios.
  • Architect Cloud Connectivity: Integrate cloud-based solutions into the cellular system and optimize the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) critical to flight reliability.
  • Drive Full Ownership: Take end-to-end responsibility for the cellular setup, from establishing performance metrics to monitoring real-world test results.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with our RF, Systems, Device SW, and Cloud teams to build out and validate these complex setups.

The position requires candidates to work on a hybrid basis (approximately 2x weekly) in our Atlanta, Mountain View, Boston or New York City offices for hands-on collaboration and field testing.
The Skillset
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in cellular firmware and user space design.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python required.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Excellent teamwork skills with a proven ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team and ensure timely project success.

Nice to have:
  • Knowledge of wireless standards, specifically 3GPP.
  • Knowledge and experience with commercial connectivity devices, including mobile and IoT devices.
  • Experience with recent Qualcomm cellular radio systems.
  • Experience with wireless products and their general software stack.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar database software.

Feeling uneasy that you haven't ticked every box? That's okay; we've felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.
90 Days at Flock
We prescribe 90 day plans and believe that good days lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Senior Software Engineer at Flock.
The First 30 Days
  • Learn about Flock products and how to use them in the lab.
  • Integrating an off the shelf radio into our drone-web system

The First 60 Days
  • Complete the extraction of radio and link statistics and the ability to store them on an agreed upon data base.
  • Architecture of multi-link operation for cellular operation.
