Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically driven Senior Scientist to join the Cell Culture Process Development group within PDS&T Biologics at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester or Waltham, MA. As part of the Cell Culture Development organization, you will play a central role in the execution, data management, and continuous improvement of high content experimental workflows. You will leverage and help enhance digital platforms to optimize team efficiency, and partner cross-functionally to expand our analytical and operational capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a scientific professional who thrives at the intersection of laboratory operations, data-driven process improvement and cell culture development. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and characterize highly-productive CHO cell culture processes suitable for cGMP biotherapeutic manufacturing within project timelines, performing technical transfer, and manufacturing support activities. 

  • Serve as the upstream subject matter expert for high-throughput systems, executing and supporting experiments to ensure consistent, high-quality scientific output. Develop and maintain SOPs and best practices related to high-throughput system usage and experimental workflows 

  • Lead data collection and formatting activities for high-throughput processes, utilizing existing digital platforms to ensure timely, structured, and analysis-ready outputs. 

  • Drive enhancements to cell culture process development digital systems to improve overall team efficiency and operational effectiveness by identifying gaps in current upstream workflows. 

  • Act as a liaison between scientific and technical stakeholders to translate operational needs into functional system requirements. 

  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, documentation and GMP compliance.  

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education with minimum 10 years of experience, or Master’s Degree or equivalent education with minimum 8 years of experience. Or PhD with no minimum years of experience, in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or a related discipline.  

  • Demonstrated experience with high-throughput laboratory systems and associated experimental workflows 

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian suspension cell culture at different bench-top scales: deep-well plates, shake flasks, bioreactors. 

  • Experience in statistical data analysis tools such as design of experiments, multivariate data analysis and data modeling.  

  • Hands-on knowledge in programming languages and cloud platforms is a plus
