Job description
The CEI will oversee and monitor infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with contract specifications, design plans, and regulatory standards. This role involved acting as the primary on-site representative for the project owner, collaborating with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to facilitate successful project completion.
- Conduct on-site inspections of water and wastewater facilities, including treatment plants, pump stations, storage tanks, and distribution systems.
- Verify construction and installation work complies with design plans, specifications, codes, and regulations.
- Document observations through detailed inspection reports, photographs, and daily logs.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure quality control and adherence to safety standards.
- Identify deficiencies, potential risks, or non-compliance issues and communicate findings to project managers and engineers.
- Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and as-built documentation when appropriate.
- Participate in project meetings to provide inspection updates and support problem resolution.
- Assist in testing, commissioning, and start-up inspections of equipment and systems.
- Ensure environmental and regulatory compliance during construction and operations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, progress reports, and any corrective actions required.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Previous experience inspecting water/wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, or related infrastructure.
- Knowledge of construction practices, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (AWWA, EPA, OSHA, state/local regulations).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and report writing capabilities.
- Familiarity with construction testing procedures (concrete, coatings, pipelines, mechanical/electrical systems).
- Competence in using inspection tools, field measurement equipment, and software (e.g., MS Office, inspection apps).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to multiple job sites.
- Professional certifications preferred but not required (e.g., Certified Construction Inspector, NICET, CWEA).
