Job Summary
The JHF Director of Major Gifts plays a key role in the Jackson Health Foundation's major gifts program. The JHF Director of Major Gifts works closely with and reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and Co-President (CDO). In partnership with the CDO, the JHF Director of Major Gifts will execute successful major gifts strategies and solicitations, support the grateful patient fundraising program, and help build solid, long-term relationships for the Foundation, with an emphasis on major gift prospects and donors. The incumbent may assist and act in a confidential capacity to help manage, formulate, determine and effectuate management process and polices. The incumbent may attend management meetings and may be involved directly or indirectly in the decision making process around confidential management decisions. Position requires exercise of independent judgment.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the CDO in advancing and executing the Foundation's three-year strategic fundraising plan, and any foreseeable campaigns.
  • Develops and manages a portfolio of 100 - 150 major gift prospects and donors, with 20-30 being actively managed at any one time, and a significant goal of securing gifts of $75,000 and above through active, successful identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Completes a minimum of 10 substantive meaningful major gift contacts a month.
  • Supports the Foundation's major gift fundraising strategies, in particular by advancing the Golden Angel (GOA) and grateful patient fundraising program.
  • Identifies, solicits, and secures new GOA's at the $75K giving level while stewarding existing GOA's and working towards increasing their overall giving.
  • Solicits and secures gifts, alongside the CDO, for the annual Golden Angels Gala, the Foundation's largest signature annual fundraising event.
  • Manages and supervises the GOA Concierge Program and Program Director.
  • Cultivates and grows the Concierge program while expediting and facilitating care for all GOA's.
  • Works towards providing the best possible outpatient / inpatient hospital and physician experience for all GOA's.
  • Develops service line relationships to encourage open communication, increased fundraising efforts via grateful patients, prospect donors, and service line employees, and maximize service line exposure with new and existing donors.
  • Works collaboratively with other entities on gifts that will increase the Foundation's reach and expand our overall fundraising efforts.
  • Works with the CDO to increase the involvement and leadership of the Foundation's Board in the fundraising process, as well as other volunteer groups, like event committees, etc.
  • Be aware of planned giving vehicles and be able to discuss a planned gift where possible with donors.
  • Have the ability to exercise initiative and accept responsibility to work proactively and with minimum supervision.
  • Skilled in motivating colleagues, volunteers, and donors.
  • Regularly reports major gift activities and results against targets to achieve performance metrics of prospects cultivated, calls made, proposals developed, solicitations, gifts closed, and dollars raised.
  • Adheres diligently to the Foundation's moves management and reporting process, ensuring proper documentation of their progress.
  • Attracts community leadership to build individual, foundation, and corporate support for a major academic medical system.
  • Effectively engages prospective donors by communicating and advocating the success of the Jackson Health System, and raise funds for the priority areas of the Foundation and system.
  • Seeks opportunities to represent the Jackson Health Foundation at community functions, networking, and nurture new and existing relationships.
  • Works collaboratively and positively with colleagues to maximize the giving potential of donors to ensure the success of the major gifts program and overall team.

Required Qualification:
Experience
  • Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of non-profit fundraising experience strongly preferred.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
