Apprentices work under the supervision of experienced drivers and receive hands-on training with commercial vehicles while learning the rules of the road, safety procedures, and proper driving techniques. They are typically preparing to obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and may participate in formal apprenticeship programs offered by trucking companies or vocational schools. This role allows apprentices to gain real-world experience and knowledge necessary for a successful career in trucking.

What responsibilities does a CDL truck driver apprentice have?

As a CDL Truck Driver Apprentice, you'll assist experienced drivers with loading, unloading, securing cargo, and performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections. You'll gradually take on more driving responsibilities under supervision, learning to navigate different routes and comply with safety regulations. Your progress is often evaluated through regular performance reviews, driving assessments, and feedback from your mentor or trainer, ensuring you're prepared for solo driving once you complete your apprenticeship. This hands-on, structured training environment helps you gain practical experience and build confidence in real-world driving scenarios.
