A student CDL driver is a commercial truck driver who is newer on the scene and still learning and gathering driving experience. Student drivers get hired by a trucking company and complete their training through a designated school. As a student CDL driver, you learn trucker responsibilities and duties, including how to drive a route and follow proper procedures, how to complete appropriate paperwork, and how to load, unload, and secure cargo. Through the processes, you complete requirements for a CDL license and gain valuable hands-on experience that allows you to move forward in your career as a trucker.
A CDL Student Driver job is an entry-level position for individuals training to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). It typically involves learning safe driving techniques, understanding trucking regulations, and gaining hands-on experience under the supervision of a certified trainer. Many trucking companies offer paid training programs to help students transition into full-time driving roles. Once training is complete and the CDL is obtained, drivers can begin working independently or with a company as a professional truck driver.

TMC offers an orientation and flatbed training program just for you! We've been training apprentice drivers for nearly 30 years.
Our student driver training program is recognized as one of the best in the country. It is also one of the few on-the-job truck driver training programs approved by the Department of Labor as a certified Heavy Truck Driver Apprenticeship program! Apprentice drivers are paid $650 per week during orientation and OTR training with one of our certified flatbed driver trainers!
