Cdl Felony In information

What are CDL felony convictions in Indiana and how do they affect a commercial driver's license?

In Indiana, a CDL felony refers to a felony conviction that impacts an individual’s eligibility to hold or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Certain felonies, such as those involving the use of a commercial vehicle in the commission of a crime, drug-related offenses, or human trafficking, can result in suspension, disqualification, or permanent revocation of a CDL. The severity and duration of the penalty depend on the nature of the offense and whether it is a first or subsequent conviction. It’s important for CDL holders to be aware of state and federal laws, as some felonies carry mandatory disqualifications that prohibit driving commercial vehicles.

What challenges might CDL drivers with a felony conviction face during the hiring process, and how can they improve their chances of employment?

CDL drivers with a felony conviction may encounter additional background checks and stricter hiring policies from certain employers, especially those working with high-value or sensitive cargo. However, many trucking companies are open to hiring individuals with past convictions, particularly if the felony is several years old and unrelated to driving offenses. To improve hiring prospects, candidates should maintain a clean driving record, obtain necessary endorsements, and be transparent about their background during interviews. Completing reputable truck driving training programs and demonstrating a strong work ethic can also help set applicants apart.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CDL driver with a felony in Indiana, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CDL driver in Indiana with a felony background, you need a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a clean driving record since the felony, and a solid understanding of federal and state trucking regulations. Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS navigation, and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) safety standards is typically required. Strong time management, reliability, and clear communication are important soft skills for maintaining schedules and building trust with employers. These qualifications and skills are crucial for ensuring legal compliance, safe operation, and employability within the trucking industry.

Job description

Job Description

Seeking Class A full-time CDL drivers immediately for a mix of Amazon Relay SOLO runs and regional OTR dry van runs. Opportunity for full-time, steady miles, and consistent home time.

We are an established transportation company with 10+ years in business and over 3 years as a contracted Amazon Linehaul Service Provider, seeking Class A CDL drivers for:

  • Amazon Relay “SOLO2” round-trip runs, and
  • Similar regional OTR runs with comparable miles and trip duration (typically 1.5–3 days out)

What the Runs Look Like

  • Home base: Phoenix, AZ
  • Lanes: Out-and-back regional routes starting and ending in Phoenix
  • Freight may run through California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas
  • Miles per round trip: Approximately 650–1400 miles
  • Trip duration: About 1.5–3 days total, including a 10-hour layover on the road
  • Home time:
  • Drivers are home every other day in most cases
  • 34-hour reset is always at home
  • Common pattern: two round trips, then a 34-hour reset

You may haul a mix of Amazon Relay freight (facility-to-facility, hook-and-drop) and regional OTR loads with similar mileage and schedule.

Pay & Schedule

  • Flat rate: $500 per completed round trip
  • Drivers typically make up to $1,500 to $1750 per week starting, depending on how many trips they run
  • Raise eligibility after six months of meeting performance standards
  • Weekly schedule is provided in advance (Amazon runs via the Amazon Relay app, regional runs via dispatch)
  • Payday: Direct deposit every Tuesday for the prior work week

Equipment & Location

  • All trailers are 53’ dry vans
  • All runs are hook and drop (no-touch freight)
  • Trucks are sometimes parked at 43rd Ave & Indian School in Phoenix, just a few miles from the main Amazon facilities

Employment Type

  • W2 only

Benefits Include

  • Paid Time Off (Full time employees)
  • Referral Bonus
  • Performance Review after Six months of employment

Driver Requirements

  • No DUI or felony convictions in the past 7 years
  • Must have at least 2 years of work history as a Class A CDL driver
  • Must qualify for 1-year Medical Certification
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Last 3 years of work history must be verifiable
  • Must be at least 21 years old (DOT Requirement)
  • Solid work history
  • Prior Amazon experience is always a plus.
