What is a CDL driver temp?

A CDL Driver Temp is a commercial driver who is hired on a temporary basis to operate vehicles that require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). These drivers might fill in for permanent staff, cover busy periods, or handle special projects. They are responsible for safely transporting goods or passengers, following all traffic and safety regulations, and may work for trucking companies, staffing agencies, or directly for businesses with transportation needs. Temporary CDL drivers often have flexible schedules but must meet the same qualifications and endorsements as full-time CDL drivers.

What are some common challenges faced by CDL driver temps and how can they be managed?

CDL Driver Temps often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new routes, unfamiliar company procedures, and varying types of equipment. Temporary roles may require drivers to adjust their driving style or workflow to fit each employer's expectations, which can be stressful at first. Staying organized, asking questions during onboarding, and maintaining open communication with dispatchers can help manage these challenges effectively. Additionally, being flexible and proactive about safety checks can make transitions between assignments smoother.
