Responsibilities

The CDI Educator is an experienced Clinical Documentation Specialist responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive CDI education program. This role supports both ongoing staff development and structured onboarding of new CDI team members, using data, trends, and industry updates to drive education that improves documentation accuracy, quality outcomes (such as expected mortality), and program consistency.

This will be a Hybrid on-site/remote  position.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Lead and maintain a formal CDI onboarding and orientation program, including competency standards and organization-specific workflows
  • Create and maintain standardized educational materials, including presentations, tools, and newsletters
  • Assess ongoing CDI team educational needs using data, audits, trends, denials, and performance metrics
    • Collaborate with CDI Second Level Reviewers to provide education to the concurrent review team on opportunities identified through second level reviews
  • Develop and deliver targeted education programs (e.g., presentations, 1:1 sessions, group trainings)
  • Provide ongoing education updates on coding guidelines, regulatory changes, and CDI best practices
  • Continuously research updates in disease pathophysiology, new surgical procedures and evolving documentation requirements to keep staff current.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for CDI staff on documentation questions and challenges
  • Collaborate with CDI and Coding leadership, and CDI Physician Advisors to align education with program priorities
  • Perform audits on CDI performance including query compliance and accurate code assignment.
  • Communicate regularly with the CDI team through structured forums (e.g., staff meetings, lunch & learns)
  • Support CDI operations through select concurrent or retrospective reviews, as needed
  • Ensure adherence to ethical standards of coding and CDI as defined by AHIMA and ACDIS

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed in NYS, RN, PA, or NP who is also a credentialed Clinical Documentation Specialist (e.g., CCDS, CDIP.
  • Demonstrated advanced CDI knowledge and strong clinical foundation
  • Demonstrated experience in education, training, or curriculum development
  • Solid understanding of coding guidelines, DRG methodology, and quality metrics
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Experience - Minimum of 5 years of recent CDI experience, Minimum of 3  years of Med-Surg or ICU bedside nursing
  • Working knowledge of CDI software, and Epic EMR
  • Knowledge of software regarding risk adjustment

Pay RangeUSD $115,000.00 - USD $165,000.00 /Yr.Qualifications

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
