Cdc Driver information

What are CDC Drivers?

CDC Drivers are professional drivers who hold a Commercial Driving Licence (CDL), often referred to as a Commercial Driver’s Certificate (CDC) in some regions. They are responsible for operating large vehicles such as trucks, lorries, or buses to transport goods or passengers safely and efficiently. CDC Drivers must adhere to strict safety regulations, maintain their vehicles, and ensure timely deliveries. The role requires strong driving skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of traffic laws.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CDC Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CDC Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of transportation regulations and safety procedures. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, vehicle inspection tools, and sometimes specialized handling equipment or certifications (such as HAZMAT or forklift) is important. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help drivers ensure timely deliveries and resolve issues on the road. These skills and qualifications are essential for ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant transportation of goods in a logistics or distribution environment.

What are some common challenges CDC Drivers face when delivering goods to multiple locations in a single shift?

CDC Drivers often encounter challenges such as tight delivery schedules, navigating unfamiliar routes, and managing heavy traffic conditions. Additionally, they must ensure accurate and timely deliveries while adhering to safety protocols and handling paperwork or electronic logs. Efficient time management and strong communication skills are essential, as CDC Drivers frequently coordinate with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and customers throughout the day.

Join the Black Cultural Zone CDC as a Coordinator, Driver!

Are you a safe, community-minded driver who believes every ride is an opportunity to connect, serve, and uplift? The Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation (BCZ CDC) is seeking a Coordinator, Driver to serve as the safe, reliable, and hospitality-centered backbone of our fleet operations across East Oakland. This is more than a driving role — you will be a “Neighborhood Messenger,” connecting community members to BCZ’s resources and Hub events while stewarding our fleet with excellence, care, and pride.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As the Coordinator, Driver, you will:

  • Operate BCZ vehicles — including the box truck, shuttle, and low-speed vehicles (LSVs) — safely and in compliance with the California Vehicle Code and applicable local regulations
  • Conduct thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, documenting vehicle condition, mileage, fuel levels, and maintenance needs to ensure fleet longevity and passenger safety
  • Provide high-touch hospitality during every transport interaction, warmly connecting passengers to BCZ resources, upcoming Hub events, and community programs
  • Maintain a professional, clean, and welcoming vehicle environment that reflects the excellence of the BCZ brand and the dignity of every passenger
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, fuel logs, mileage, and maintenance schedules in alignment with BCZ’s Fleet Management and Safety Policy
  • Provide scheduled and on-demand transport for community members, team members, and materials across BCZ Hub locations, partner sites, and community activation events
  • Support the logistical coordination of community events and Hub activations by transporting supplies, equipment, and materials as directed by the Facilities team
  • Model BCZ’s C.R.E.A.T.E. values and the Ubora Experience in every community touchpoint and team interaction

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record (no major violations within the last three years)
  • Brings a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a driving, logistics, transportation, or community-facing role
  • Has demonstrated ability to operate large vehicles, including box trucks and passenger shuttles, safely and in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Brings excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage warmly and professionally with a diverse range of community members, guests, and team members
  • Is physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, securing heavy cargo, and performing the physical demands of fleet operations
  • Is able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by community activations and organizational needs
  • Must pass a standard background check and holds or is willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification, Food Handler Certification, and BCZ University Internal Certification within the required timeframes
  • Preferred: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement; experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization; familiarity with East Oakland's community landscape; bilingual in English and Spanish or another community language

OUR CULTURE AND BENEFITS

At Black Cultural Zone CDC, we believe in a collaborative organizational culture guided by our C.R.E.A.T.E. values - Collaboration, Respect, Execution Speed & Excellence, Accountability, Tenacity, and Equity & Fairness. Every team member is a steward of our mission to restore, preserve, and keep place for East Oakland's current and legacy residents and business owners.

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Hourly

Schedule: Various shifts, Monday-Saturday; schedule subject to operational and event needs

Location: Liberation Park / Various BCZ Hubs

Compensation: Hourly $20.00-$23.96

Culture: Join a team dedicated to the Sankofa Journey Approach - learning from the past to build a thriving, liberated future for East Oakland.

If you're ready to bring your safe driving skills, community spirit, and commitment to excellence to a team that is building something extraordinary in East Oakland, we encourage you to apply!
