What is a CDA?

A CDA (Certified Dental Assistant) is a trained professional who supports dentists in clinical and administrative tasks. Their duties often include preparing patients for procedures, sterilizing instruments, taking dental X-rays, and assisting during treatments. CDAs may also handle office tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient records. Certification requirements vary by location, but many CDAs complete formal training and pass an exam.

What does a CDA do?

A typical day for a Certified Dental Assistant involves preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, assisting dentists during various procedures, and ensuring patient comfort throughout appointments. CDAs also take dental radiographs, update patient records using dental practice management software, and educate patients on oral hygiene practices.
