What does a CCTV sewer camera operator do?

A CCTV Sewer Camera Operator is responsible for inspecting underground sewer and drainage pipelines using specially designed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. They operate the camera equipment to identify blockages, leaks, cracks, or structural issues within the pipes. The operator documents findings, generates reports, and often works closely with engineers or maintenance crews to recommend necessary repairs. This role requires technical skill with camera systems and a strong understanding of pipeline infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CCTV sewer camera operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CCTV Sewer Camera Operator, you need a solid understanding of sewer systems, experience with video inspection equipment, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with specialized camera systems, digital recording software, and mapping or reporting tools is typically required, with certifications from organizations like NASSCO being advantageous.
