What is a CCT RN?

A CCT RN (Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse) is a nurse specialized in providing advanced care during patient transport, often via air or ground ambulance. They are trained to handle critically ill patients, using skills in airway management, ventilator support, and emergency procedures, and typically hold critical care certifications and a valid RN license.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CCT RN (Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse), and why are they important?

To thrive as a CCT RN, you need advanced clinical assessment skills, critical care knowledge, and an active RN license, often with additional certifications like ACLS, PALS, and CCRN. Familiarity with portable ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and electronic charting systems is typically required. Strong decision-making, teamwork, and communication skills help CCT RNs manage high-stress situations and coordinate care during patient transport. These abilities are vital for delivering safe, effective care to critically ill or injured patients in dynamic and unpredictable environments.

How to make $150,000 as a nurse?

A CCT RN can earn $150,000 by gaining specialized certifications, working in high-demand areas such as critical care or travel nursing, and taking on overtime or per diem shifts. Advancing to roles like nurse manager or specialized practitioner can also increase earning potential, especially with experience and additional education.

How does a CCT RN typically interact with other members of the critical care transport team during a patient transfer?

A CCT RN (Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse) works closely with paramedics, respiratory therapists, and sometimes physicians during patient transfers. Collaboration is key, as the RN is often responsible for patient assessment, medication administration, and documentation, while communicating changes in patient status to the team. Effective teamwork and clear communication are essential, especially in high-pressure and dynamic environments where patient needs can change rapidly. This collaborative approach ensures the highest standard of care throughout the transport process.

Your primary focus will be on patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). This role requires traveling to our client's offices for in-clinic device interrogations, where you will conduct thorough assessments directly with patients.

Additionally, you will utilize Rhythmโ€™s proprietary software to monitor patients remotely. This dual approach ensures comprehensive patient care and effective device management. Your expertise in cardiac electrophysiology and biomedical engineering will be crucial in evaluating the technical functions of CIEDs. You will also analyze and interpret both device data and patient diagnostics to support optimal treatment outcomes.

Rhythm offers full-time employees a robust compensation and benefits package, including Health and Prescription coverage, Dental, Vision, 401k Retirement Savings with company match for full-time employees, Paid Time Off and more.

In-Clinic Responsibilities:

  • Device Interrogations: Conduct in-office and in-person interrogations at client locations, ensuring accurate assessments and thorough data collection.
  • Communication Management: Assist with managing communications through the clientโ€™s Electronic Medical Records (EMR), including scheduling adjustments and addressing same-day no-shows.
  • MRI Device Knowledge: Possess in-depth knowledge of MRI-compatible devices, presenting relevant information to providers for patient approvals and MRI scheduling.
  • AV Optimization: Skilled in performing AV optimizations in-office, ensuring procedures are conducted smoothly and efficiently.
  • Vendor Navigation: Proficient in navigating systems and tools provided by the four main vendors in the industry: Medtronic, Abbott, Biotronik, Boston Scientific.

Remote Responsibilities:

  • Device Interrogations: Perform remote device interrogations, ensuring continuity of care and monitoring.
  • Remote Monitoring Enrollment: Skilled in enrolling patients in remote monitoring programs and educating them on the specifics and benefits of remote monitoring.
  • Comprehensive Evaluations: Integrate knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, and cardiac device function to perform competent evaluations and diagnostic reviews through remote monitoring.
  • Abnormal Function Recognition: Recognize and address abnormal functions in pacemakers, defibrillators, implantable loop recorders (ILRs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices, proposing strategies to rectify issues.
  • Clinical Communication: Effectively communicate with Rhythmโ€™s clinical team and providers regarding Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) function and diagnostic data, ensuring documentation is accurate, professional, and standardized.
  • Data Analysis and Management: Analyze device functionality and patient data to diagnose and manage device performance, ensuring optimal outcomes.

Requirements

    • Successful completion of a cardiac device rhythm management course or equivalent experience.
    • 2+ years of recent implanted cardiac device management experience with knowledge of all manufacturer programmers.
    • 3+ years cardiology experience, cardiac electrophysiology preferred.
    • Experience with interrogating and interpreting device diagnostics for all four major manufacturers (Medtronic, Abbott/St. Jude, Boston Scientific, Biotronik).
    • Experience in performing AV-Optimizations under the guidance of a provider
    • Cardiac rhythm management industry training and experience preferred.
    • Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) required prior to employment commencement date.
    • Additional preferred certificationsโ€”Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) Certifications (CCDS, CEPS, CDRMS) also preferred, prior to employment date.
    • Proficiency with collaboration applications and software (Microsoft Office Suite, Teams).
    • Hands-On Clinical Expertise: In addition to our standard remote competencies, candidates must possess proven, hands-on experience performing in-office device interrogations, optimizations, and programming changes.

Benefits

    • Compensation: Competitive salary ranging from $80,000 - $85,000 annually, based on location and experience, with additional potential for individual performance bonuses.
    • Employment Type: Full-time position with comprehensive benefits. Part-time and contract roles are also available for those interested in flexible working arrangements.
