We offer a dynamic and collaborative approach to managing wealth for high-net-worth and ultra high-net-worth individuals and families, family offices, endowments, foundations, and institutions. Our investment managers, tax and estate planning professionals work together to develop holistic strategies to optimize clients' portfolios while mitigating the impact of taxes on their wealth. As a fiduciary, the guidance we provide is in the best interests of our clients, without conflict or competing benefits. We offer boutique customization and deep expertise in specialized investment, tax and planning strategies alongside sophisticated technology and custody platforms.

Fiduciary Trust International is owned by Franklin Templeton, a dynamic firm that spans asset management, wealth management, and fintech, giving us many ways to help investors make progress toward their goals. With clients in over 150 countries and offices on six continents, you'll get exposed to different cultures, people, and business development happening around the world.

Tax Specialist

Fiduciary Trust International (FTI) is hiring a Tax Specialist to join its high-net-worth tax services team in NYC. In this preparation-focused role the Tax Specialist will primarily prepare federal, state, and local individual income tax returns and related workpapers for high-net-worth individuals and families. The Tax Specialist will work directly with Senior Tax Accountants and other members of the tax team.

How You Will Add Value

  • Prepare federal, state, and local individual income tax returns for high-net-worth clients, including Form 1040 and multi-state filings.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting tax workpapers; reconcile source documents to the workpapers and tax return; and clearly document open items for review.
  • Use CCH Scan and AutoFlow to organize tax documents and transfer information into CCH Axcess Tax, then review and clean up imported data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify missing, incomplete, or inconsistent information and communicate routine document requests, status updates, and basic tax questions to clients and internal partners under senior oversight.
  • Prepare estimated tax calculations, extensions, payment vouchers, and supporting schedules, and assist with the tax payment process.
  • Maintain return tracking, monitor assigned deadlines, and coordinate workflow to help ensure returns and related deliverables are completed on time.
  • Assist with tax notices, amended returns, and routine federal and state tax authority inquiries.
  • Collate completed tax returns and supporting documents for client delivery and signature, and organize electronic tax documents and files.
  • Assist with gift tax, partnership, and private foundation returns as assigned; prior exposure to these return types is a plus.
  • Support other tax compliance projects and process-improvement initiatives as needed.

What Will Help You Be Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of tax preparation experience, preferably in public accounting, private client tax, or wealth management tax services.
  • Experience preparing federal and state individual income tax returns; exposure to high-net-worth and multi-state returns is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with gift tax, partnership, or private foundation returns is a plus.
  • Experience with CCH Axcess Tax and CCH Scan is preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and follow-up skills, with careful attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to handle routine tax matters professionally with clients and internal partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work additional hours, including some weekends, during peak filing periods, generally from late February through mid-April and from September through mid-October.

Work Schedule & Location: This role is based in New York, NY and operates under a hybrid working model, blending in-office collaboration with remote work flexibility.
