Job description

WNCN-TV/CBS 17, the Nexstar station in Raleigh, is looking for a Digital Breaking News Responder. This is a unique position that requires a special skillset. The ideal candidate must be self-sufficient, proactive, and aggressive covering breaking news. The job requires the ability to listen to and respond to police scanners, as well as shoot, write, and edit content from the scene of breaking news in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers. The Breaking News Responder will work closely with our weekend team to produce content for our linear and digital platforms, including CBS17.com and CBS 17 Plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Minimum one year experience in local TV news
  • Proactive in responding to breaking news across the Raleigh-Durham market
  • Ability to gather urgent information on-scene from witnesses and law enforcement
  • Ability to shoot, write and edit using various technology
  • Ability to create digital content/web stories for digital platforms
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Flexibility to work any shift
