Job description

General Description / Objective

The Doctoring Crew is a critical part of feedyard functionality that is responsible for the day to day health

and wellness of the Friona Industries feedyard livestock. Successful members are resilient, honest,

dependable, and genuinely concerned in aiding in the wellness of the feedyard cattle population. Doctoring

Crew members will work closely with all feedyard departments and veterinarian both as an individual and as

a member of a team to establish the highest quality care and maintenance of the feedyard to ensure the

welfare of livestock while contributing to the overall success of the feedyard team.

Roles and Tasks

  • · Adheres to Beef Quality Assurance standards and practices
  • · Properly administering prescribed treatment and medication to livestock
  • · Properly handling of all medications and medical supplies associated with feedyard cattle health requirements
  • · Maintain related equipment and facilities utilized by feedyard livestock
  • · Responsible for determining mortality and recording information in the feedyard animal health records
  • · Accountable for recording the pen number and ear tag number in the feedyard record system
  • · Maintain Accurate records and deliver proper notification off all pertinent data
  • · Recognize sick cattle and determine and aid in the diagnosis of illness
  • · Maintain sanitary and clean working facilities
  • · Clean and maintain sick pen water troughs daily
  • · Continual observance and adherence of all safety policies and procedures
  • · Promote, support, and participate in all company policies, procedures and programs
  • · Other duties and job assignments are necessary for feedyard effectiveness

Specific Knowledge:

  • · Basic Knowledge of livestock health and habits
  • · Knowledge of fundamental animal health programs
  • · Understand and apply humane handling policies and procedure of livestock

IT / Technical Knowledge:

  • Basic computer knowledge

Minimum Experience Required:

  • One Year doctoring crew experience
  • Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills- Add

Special Conditions / Requirements:

  • · Physical Requirements Include: standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, shoveling, working, equipment, and handling livestock
  • · Considerable exposure to weather such as: rain, sleet, snow, hail, heat, cold, wind, and dust

  • · Daily close proximity to livestock
  • · Occasional physical exertion during administration of medical attention
  • · Hazards Include: Livestock accidents and transmissible disease
