What is a Catia?

A Catia job typically involves working with CATIA, a computer-aided design (CAD) software developed by Dassault Systèmes. Professionals in these roles use CATIA to design, model, and engineer products in industries like aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing. Responsibilities may include creating 3D models, simulations, and technical drawings to support product development. Engineers, designers, and drafters commonly use CATIA to improve design precision and efficiency.

What are the typical responsibilities of a Catia designer or engineer on a daily basis?

A CATIA Designer or Engineer typically spends their day creating and modifying 3D models, developing detailed drawings, and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to refine product designs. They may also be responsible for troubleshooting design issues, ensuring models meet industry standards, and integrating feedback from other stakeholders. Depending on the industry, they might participate in design reviews, manage data through Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, and support the transition of designs into manufacturing. This role often requires working to tight deadlines and adapting to evolving project requirements, making strong organizational skills important for success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Catia position, and why are they important?

To excel as a CATIA Designer or Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical or industrial design, proficiency with 3D modeling, and often a relevant engineering degree. Expertise in CATIA CAD software, familiarity with PLM systems, and certifications such as Dassault Systèmes CATIA certification are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills set top candidates apart. These skills are essential for producing accurate, efficient designs and collaborating in multidisciplinary engineering environments.

What can you do with CATIA?

A professional working with CATIA can design, model, and analyze complex 3D CAD models for engineering and manufacturing purposes. It is used for product development, simulation, and creating detailed technical drawings, often requiring knowledge of CAD tools and engineering principles.

Job description

About this opportunity:
GoEngineer is a provider of the most compelling design platforms in the industry, deploying engineering software and 3D Printing technology to make the design process innovative, efficient and intelligent.
As a CATIA Pre-Sales Applications Engineer, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the sales process, helping prospective and existing customers evaluate CATIA solutions through engaging demonstrations, technical presentations, and solution-focused discussions.
This customer-facing position combines engineering expertise, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to help customers understand how CATIA can address their design and manufacturing challenges. While training and technical support opportunities exist, the primary focus of this role is delivering impactful software demonstrations, supporting the sales process, and becoming a subject matter expert in CATIA solutions.
You will work closely with customers across a variety of industries while collaborating with sales and technical teams to showcase innovative solutions that drive business success.
Your key contributions in this role will be:
  • Demonstrate CATIA software capabilities to prospects and customers in front of a live audience and/or via web meetings.
  • Support the Sales Team with product knowledge, demonstrations, meeting agendas, strategy, and customer correspondence.
  • Serve as a technical expert during customer evaluations, presentations, and solution-focused discussions.
  • Troubleshoot and provide resolution to customer issues regarding CATIA, installations, and add-on/complementary products.
  • Collaborate with other technical colleagues for knowledge-building and skills-sharing.
  • Research industry trends and competitive technologies.
  • Create web-based content (videos, tutorials, webinars, and other resources) showcasing software features, capabilities, and trends.
  • Obtain and maintain industry certifications.
  • Deliver customer training, mentoring services, and instructor-led classes (classroom, custom, and/or web-based) as needed.
  • Visit customers at their facilities to better understand their design, engineering, and manufacturing processes.
  • Explore new areas of CATIA and related technologies to support customer demonstrations and solution development.

We are looking for candidates with the below experience and skills, however, even if you do not meet all the listed requirements, very interested candidates should still apply:
  • Exceptional communication and follow-up skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
  • Professional demeanor and customer-focused attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer relationship and interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly, helpful, and collaborative approach.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Strong CATIA experience required.
  • Experience presenting to customers, peers, or leadership teams.
  • Comfortable serving as a technical expert in customer-facing discussions.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office products, and related hardware devices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of industry experience.

  • Experience within Aerospace & Defense, Transportation, or related industries.

  • Engineering or design engineering background.

  • Experience with other CAD, PLM, or engineering software solutions.

  • Previous applications engineering, technical sales, or pre-sales experience.

  • Experience delivering design reviews, technical presentations, customer training, or internal knowledge-sharing sessions.

  • Experience working in a customer-facing environment.

This Role Is a Great Fit for You If:
  • You enjoy presenting technical concepts and demonstrating software solutions.

  • You are comfortable speaking in front of groups and engaging different audiences.

  • You enjoy helping customers solve engineering and business challenges.

  • You have CATIA experience and want to leverage that expertise in a customer-facing environment.

  • You enjoy learning new technologies and exploring different areas of software.

  • You thrive in a role that combines technical expertise, relationship building, and sales support.

  • You are interested in growing into a pre-sales or applications engineering career path.

This Role Is Not a Great Fit for You If:
  • You are seeking a position focused primarily on day-to-day product design.

  • You prefer working independently with limited customer interaction.

  • You dislike giving presentations or speaking in front of groups.

  • You are uncomfortable acting as a technical expert during sales discussions.

  • You prefer highly repetitive work rather than varied customer challenges.

  • You are not interested in continually learning and exploring new software capabilities.
