What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Catia Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Catia Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with expertise in 3D modeling, CAD design, and typically a relevant degree. Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6 software, PLM systems like ENOVIA, and often certifications from Dassault Systèmes are highly valued. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong teamwork and communication skills help you excel in collaborative engineering environments. These competencies ensure accurate, efficient design processes and seamless integration with multidisciplinary project teams.

What are some common challenges Catia Engineers face when collaborating with multidisciplinary teams?

Catia Engineers often work closely with professionals from various disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams. One common challenge is ensuring that 3D models and design data are compatible with different team requirements and software tools. Effective communication and a clear understanding of project goals are crucial to avoid misinterpretations or rework. Additionally, Catia Engineers may need to adapt quickly to changes in project specifications or workflows, which requires flexibility and strong problem-solving skills.

What is the difference between Catia Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectCatia EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
Required SkillsProficiency in CATIA software, CAD modeling, and draftingCAD software skills (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), mechanical design principles
Work EnvironmentDesign offices, engineering firms, manufacturing companiesProduct development, manufacturing, R&D departments
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, industrial equipmentConsumer products, machinery, automotive

Both roles involve CAD skills and work in engineering environments, but a Catia Engineer specializes specifically in using CATIA software for detailed 3D modeling, primarily in industries like aerospace and automotive. Mechanical Design Engineers may use various CAD tools and focus on broader mechanical product development. The choice depends on the specific software expertise and industry focus.

What is a Catia Engineer?

A Catia Engineer is a professional who specializes in using CATIA, a powerful computer-aided design (CAD) software developed by Dassault Systèmes, to design, develop, and analyze products in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing. These engineers use CATIA to create 3D models, simulate product performance, and generate detailed engineering drawings. Job description

Role: CAE + CATIA Engineer (Harness Designer)
Location: Raymond, OH (Onsite)
Duration: Contract (Full-Time)

Year of Exp: 8+ yrs to 15 yrs.

Job Description:

Role Summary: We are seeking a skilled Harness CAE Designer to support end-to-end automotive harness development activities for Honda’s vehicle development programs. The engineer will work onsite and use Siemens Capital CAE tools to develop logical and physical harness designs, generate manufacturing outputs, validate design data, and support comparison, workflow, and change-management activities. The role requires strong knowledge of automotive electrical systems, harness architecture, connectivity, and design documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform end-to-end automotive harness development using Siemens Capital CAE tools.
  • Develop logical wiring architecture models, including power distribution, ground distribution, and signal/communication networks.
  • Create physical harness designs including topology, bundle structure, routing, splices, branches, breakouts, and connector/terminal assignments.
  • Reference or import harness data from CATIA V5/V6 to extract 3D routing information and design intent.
  • Reference or import logical network data from EAZ to extract connectivity and electrical characteristic information.
  • Generate manufacturing-ready deliverables such as 2D harness drawings, BOMs, wire lists, connectivity reports, splice/joint tables, and shielding/grounding reports.
  • Execute design validation activities including electrical rule checks, design consistency checks, and analysis support for circuit protection and voltage-drop readiness where applicable.
  • Support comparison and benchmarking of Siemens Capital outputs against legacy CATIA/EAZ outputs and prepare gap/delta analysis reports.
  • Maintain revision-controlled harness datasets and ensure traceability between logical, physical, and released design data.
  • Prepare technical documentation, workflow/process documentation, issue logs, and design review presentation materials.
  • Collaborate with Honda and supplier stakeholders to support delivery, issue resolution, and continuous improvement of harness design workflows.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in automotive wiring harness design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in Siemens Capital / Capital CAE tools for harness design.
  • Experience with CATIA V5/V6 in relation to harness routing, packaging, or data extraction.
  • Working knowledge of automotive electrical architecture, schematics, connectivity, and harness documentation.
  • Ability to interpret and develop logical and physical harness designs with strong attention to engineering quality and release readiness.
  • Experience generating harness manufacturing deliverables such as BOMs, drawings, wire lists, and reports.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently onsite and coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with EAZ network data and legacy harness toolchains.
