Description

The teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Diocese of Orlando. The school's Principal hires the teacher who is directly accountable to him or her. The teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Diocese of Orlando and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of Melbourne Central Catholic High School. The teacher cooperates with the Principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Teaches and acts in accordance with doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Understands and appropriately teaches the curriculum of the Diocese of Orlando.
  • Assesses student progress in accordance with Diocese of Orlando approved procedures.
  • Knows, teaches, and acts consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies and procedures of Melbourne Central Catholic High School.
  • Maintains Florida state teaching certification.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and in Diocesan and school-sponsored professional development programs.
  • Performs teaching duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal
  • Attends required faculty and staff meetings.
  • Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities, and projects.
  • Maintains accurate student attendance and academic records.
  • Maintains a safe, orderly, and secure learning and working environment.
  • Participates in the semi-annual performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator at Melbourne Central Catholic High School.
  • Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters.
  • Supervises and evaluates students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Practicing Catholic preferred
  • Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training and test requirements
  • Appropriate Florida State Teaching Certification
  • Organization
  • Ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language
  • Theology positions require a master in divinity


CATHOLIC FAITH

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift at least 15 pounds. Physical demands include balancing, carrying, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, talking and walking. Also includes the ability to see items close.
