Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is currently seeking a Cathodic Protection Technician to join our team! At UTRS, we enjoy the benefits of working in a collaborative environment of close-knit team members. We are looking for someone that will support our mission to consistently deliver creative, high-quality, technology-based services to our customers on time and within budget.

This position will conduct cathodic protection surveys, cathodic protection repairs and installations, corrosion control services and corrosion inspections. Most jobs are within the Pennsylvania/New Jersey/New York/Maryland vicinity. The ideal candidate will reside within driving distance of these areas. You may rent a vehicle or drive your own vehicle for project travel. You will be reimbursed for tolls and the mileage rate as listed on gsa.gov when driving your own vehicle. 30% travel is estimated for jobs across the continental US requiring air travel. The ideal candidate will reside within approximately 1 hour travel time to a major airport. An AMPP/NACE Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) certification is required.

What will you be doing?

This position will be a key member of the Cathodic Protection/Corrosion team. Duties include:

  • Perform regulatory-driven cathodic protection surveys and maintenance to ensure compliance and prevention program effectiveness.
  • Test and troubleshoot cathodic protection system and equipment to ensure effective operation.
  • Tests, inspects, and maintains rectifiers, test stations, and coupons.
  • Interference testing
  • Close Interval Surveys (CIS)
  • Minor cathodic protection field repairs
  • Cathodic protection system installations
  • Atmospheric corrosion inspection and maintenance program to maintain equipment integrity and ensure compliance.
  • Utilize software to record, monitor, and evaluate cathodic protection and atmospheric corrosion data to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.


What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?


This position will require the following skillsets and experience:

Candidates with the following skillsets and experience are ideal:

  • Certification, diploma or degree in corrosion technology or related field.
  • 2 or more years of related experience with cathodic protection systems.
  • AMPP/NACE certified Cathodic Protection Tester (CP Level 1 Certification) or higher or Equivalent Certification.
  • Basic knowledge of DC circuits, chemistry and metallurgy
  • Knowledge of CFR 49, Parts 192, 193 and 195.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:
Grasping, kneeling, lifting (objects up to 50 pounds), bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, pulling hand over hand, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone/video calls.
