Lakefront geography defines Michigan City, IN, where the Indiana Dunes National Park begins at the edge of town and the old lighthouse still marks the harbor. The hospital in town serves a corridor of lakeshore communities, keeping emergency departments and inpatient units in regular need of travel RNs. The South Shore Line runs straight into Chicago for car-free weekends, an option few markets this size offer. A rental search splits between in-town rentals and quieter options inland, with summer rental rates climbing sharply near the water. Dune trails and lake beaches start just minutes from most assignments, busier in July than travelers expect and then nearly empty again by the middle of October.
