Registered Nurse – Practice

LPG is affiliated with Doctors Hospital of Laredo, whose care network encompasses two freestanding emergency rooms, and an outpatient clinic with ancillary and surgical services.

The Registered Nurse – Practice (RN) is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. The RN is responsible for interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedures as directed by the physician. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Assists in covering the front desk as required. Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act. Refers to and consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent and resolve problems or concerns. The RN educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.

Job duties/responsibilities include ensuring patient rooms and equipment are kept stocked and clean. Manages referrals, pre-authorizes prescriptions and clinical tests, and handles patient prescriptions. Schedules tests, contacts patients with lab results, and sends necessary letters. Performs clinical duties: triaging, checking vitals, administering injections, prepping for exams, and conducting various clinical tests. Labels specimens, completes lab slips, and assists with patient information forms and charting. Adheres to IPM Safety and Quality guidelines and engages clients in care plan development. Triages patient concerns, responds to crises, and performs advanced nursing procedures under supervision.
