Senior Cable Technician

Job Description

This role is for an experienced Senior Cable Technician who serves as a working foreman or lead cable technician on a major TXE project in El Paso. The technician reports directly to the superintendent, leads cable installation crews by example, and performs hands-on work with CAT5 and CAT6 cabling, including basket tray wiring, pulling CAT6 copper cable, certifying patch connections, and building out IDF rooms in large commercial construction environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cable installation crews on the TXE project in El Paso, serving as a working foreman and setting a high standard for quality and productivity.
  • Report directly to the superintendent and communicate project status, crew performance, and any field issues in a clear and timely manner.
  • Install and route CAT5 and CAT6 cabling, including pulling CAT6 copper cable through basket trays and other pathways in large commercial facilities.
  • Wire and organize basket trays to ensure clean, efficient, and safe cable management throughout the project site.
  • Build out IDF rooms, including cable routing, termination, labeling, and preparation for certification and testing.
  • Perform patch certification and cable testing to verify performance, reliability, and adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Drive daily work plans for the crew, assign tasks, and ensure that all team members understand and follow project requirements and timelines.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety while working around active rail and industrial areas, ensuring all crew members follow PPE and safety protocols.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment, meeting project deadlines and adapting to changing field conditions.
  • Collaborate with a skilled telecom team and other trades on site to coordinate work, resolve issues, and support successful project delivery.

Essential Skills

  • At least 10+ years of experience as a low voltage cable technician working with cable installations in the field.
  • Extensive experience in large commercial construction environments, particularly with low voltage cabling and infrastructure.
  • Hands-on expertise with CAT5 and CAT6 cabling, including pulling CAT6 copper cable and routing through basket trays.
  • Proven experience running jobs, leading crews, or both, with the ability to act as a working foreman on active projects.
  • Strong understanding of IDF buildouts, including cable routing, termination, labeling, and preparation for certification.
  • Ability to perform cable and patch certification, ensuring installations meet performance and quality standards.
  • Background in construction and cable technology, with a focus on low voltage systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive work and people, motivating crews and maintaining high productivity in the field.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
